One way is to get a towel and wipe the body of one cat and then take the towel over and wipe it on the other cat. Cats recognize each other by smell and not sight and having the scent of the other cat on them will get them more familiar with each other.
You can also put the new cat in the carrier and allow the other cat to come to investigate. Once they sniff each other out without a lot of hissing then you can try putting them in the same room together.
Just do it a little each day until they have accepted each other and they will be friends in no time. Another way is to have toys to play with them at the same time.

We have 2 other cats who were raised together. After we brought our Himmie home they were not impressed. Finnigan (new one) basically had to learn that he had to fit in with the other two. Cecil was a fraidy cat and went into hiding and would cower when Finnigan came anywhere near him. Finnigan finally went into "submissive" position as if to say, I want to play, not hurt you. Shadow, on the other hand, one day, jumped off the chair and "took control" of who was the "top cat" around here. It took some time for harmony to reign in the house but it does work. You just have to let the animals be animals and they should work it out. Five years after having Finnie, Shadow will still not allogroom him as she does with Cecil, meaning, she will not bathe/lick him. Periodically, all three of them will be on the bed. Good luck. Let us know how it works out for your new addition.

I placed a new cat in a safe container like a cat carrier for a while until my old cat got used to it. I also put a litle cat nip on a vinyl or linoleum floor - both cats rolled around in it together and didn't seem to mind each other.
