Ok so A freind of mine is trying to sell her car. I am in desperate need of somthing functional that will last. She has a 1995 Lexus LH400. It has 160,00 miles, leather, moonroof, heated seats, automatic start, 5 disc cd player, tv in the passesnger side visor, new tires, a new fuel pump, it has been taken for oil changes every 3,000 miles. she bought it when it had 90,000 miles rfom original owner. It has a small rust spot on drivers side door, and a very small dent in bumper. It needs new brakes, a muffler and a tune up in the next six months. Overall it is in fair/good condition. She is willing to let me have it for 2 grand. Should i take this deal. Will this car last, and is it worth it?

It is an expensive car and that means that you pay a little more when you need repairs. they don't really need a tune up other than plugs, wires and filters. A muffler shop would probably do the brakes for you too. Always get the best brakes you can and havee the rotors turned. Around here it is $7 for each rotor. You can go to a muffler shop where they bend the pipe according to your vehicle, you want new pipes with a muffler. The muffler shop pipe is about twice as thick as what I get pre-bent from auto stores. You pay a little more, but you get twice as much for your money. Also when I do our vehicles or those for others I weld the joints. It sounds like it has been well maintained, so it should be worth 2 grand. If everything else is in good condition you will end up with a good car and one that will handle nicely on the road.

it isnt for fixing the brakes, a new paint job, a new muffer, and a tune up is really expensive even if you just pick 2 out of 4. i suggest you start off with a nice honda civic.

I think you mean an LS400
That's a good deal. Even after fixing what it needs, you will be money ahead. It's worth about 5,000

Honestly, I would pass on it. Spend alittle more and get something that will last. 160,000 is alot of milege! You will end up spending alot more in fixing the car...and parts/labor are not cheap.
