if you are using NiMH batteries (which is pretty much the only thing available these days) most chargers are 4-6 hours, there are 15 minute chargers out there but most of them will state that they are such either on the batteries you use in them or on the charger itself. the chargers will automatically shut off when the batteries are charged so leaving them on the charger does not do you any additional good. Keep in mind that NiMH batteries output at 1.2v instead of 1.5v like alkaline batteries. The difference in voltage shoudn't be noticed if your device uses 2-4 batteries, but if it uses more than that you may experience short battery life or the device may not work at all.

i think with recarables it is anywhere for 12 to 24 hours the longer you charge them the better and to get the most life out of your batteries you need to drain them the first comple of times and then totally charge them
