Look, I am tired of seeing obese people. Obese CHILDREN. I knew this child that weighed 304 lbs. and he was only 8 years old, and that was because his mom drove him to McDonalds EVERY DAY, and that's how my family was years ago. I was nine years old and weighed 136 lbs as my all-time high. I could barely walk ten steps without panting for air. But today I am healthy weighing much less and I am much taller. I am just saying the society does not care about obesity, they just want to make fast food joints to make some big money! ALL fast food chains across the country shouold be torn down and made into Health Centers!!! People eat junk food because it 'tastes good', but the truth is, it is a threat to your health, clogs your arteries, and can shorten your life.

I know it is the people's decisions to go there, but I and alot of other people do not want to see a world of obesity! This is more sad than most of you think.

That has nothing to do with the fast food restaurants. It's YOUR CHOICE to go there. No one said you had to buy your kid a cheesburger every day. Get some control over your life.

We moved a few years ago, hours away from the nearest town and snowed in in the winter. We actually had to lay in provisions for winter, it was very Little House on the Prairie. Anyway, we were nowhere near a fast food restaurant and I and my kids went nuts at first. We wanted fast food in the worst way for months, but we found that we couldn't be bothered getting it when we went for groceries, we were always in a hurry to get what we needed and get back. We just moved to the city a few months ago and now we have fast food restaurants nearby, and at first we were excited but we discovered that after three years, we can't stand the food. The taste, colors and textures all gross my kids right out, and it makes me physically ill. They also can't eat store-bought bread since I have been baking it, they don't like the taste. I think that the answer is for more people to learn how to cook and make a point of cooking at home every night, especially if they have kids. It's hard at first but when you do that for long enough, the whole family learns the difference between what is truly good food and what is garbage. It really doesn't taste good in reality, it's just all the chemicals and preservatives, people get hooked on them.

I think that, rather than closing the restaurants, more attention should be paid to the substances that are being sold - the FDA really needs to crack down because what is being sold does pose a health risk to any nation that has a populace that consumes this food on a regular basis. Lifestyle does play a part, but the restaurants need to assume more responsibility.

Okay, here's how they became so popular: Both parents (or the one parent who lives in the home) are/is forced to work full time; they are stressed and tired when they get home; time is something that he/she/they don't have - viola - fast food! Many people stop to pick up pizza, McDonalds, Chinese, etc. almost every night of the week.

If parents were allowed more flexibility (i.e., work at home, work less days, work less hours per day, etc.), you might see a healthy, home-cooked meal once in a while. The problem is that most kids are so used to the fast food - they will probably hate the healthy food. The other problem is that most parents cannot afford to work part-time.

When my children were small, I used to get them out into nature and relax on Saturdays - and prepare and freeze meals for the entire week on Sundays. I was lucky to have had a husband at home to help me - but we still both needed to work with having six children.

I'm tired of people blaming obesity on fast food, that is not the entire truth. I eat Mcdonalds and Burger King like it's going out of style, and Im not the least bit overweight. I don't drink and I dont smoke. What i do, is I exercise, all the time! I was heavy when i was growing up, but the problem is I ate and did nothing, I wasn't active. A lot of people are obese is because they eat and eat but dont get out and do things to counter the heavy eating. And then there are some who just dont know how to eat. They eat the carbs at night, when the body is settling down and much less active, they eat the greasy food whether at a fast food place or at home but the eat it in heavy quantities. I'm glad you changed your life style hooray for you but, you also grew up , grew taller(HINT HINT weight spreads once you grow therefore the appearance of obesity doesn't show as much as it would if you were short) But to Judge other people because how they choose to live and what they choose to eat on a daily basis is absurb.

Furthermore , you're trying to live a healthy life and be fruit and veggie aware of everythinig, The BIBLE doesn't say you have to be thin and of good health to come in to the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, you just have to be saved and be a believer of CHRIST!. Shorten my life here on earth because my soul is ANCHORED IN THE LORD!

You and your few circle of friends who Judge others because they are obese are some very shallow individuals. Let me ask you while you're judging them. Did you stop nd ask yourself ,did JESUS judge you and me when HE died on that cross. HE did it to save all mankind.
Instead of you and your circle of friends judging those who are obese, why not do something creative like Christ did, go out into the world and educate and impact lives on the danges of fast food eating. Complaining, moaning and groaning gets you nowhere fast. But doing something in response of will get you the results you hope to achieve.(this is in response of your additonal details you just posted a few mins ago)

You can eat at McDonalds every day of your life, and not get fat. What do people mean by JUNK food. A hamburger is beef and bread. If you eat it at McDonalds its JUNK FOOD, but order a meal at the Waldorf Astoria, you'll get meat and bread, but it's not junk food because other things are served along with the meat and bread.
So the fast food is not junk food, instead it's an incomplete meal. No one ever got fat from eating a hamburger. Fat comes from gluttony, overeating, pigging it up.
It's so convenient to blame others for our own faults. McDonalds did not make the eight year old girl fat. Overeating made her fat.

No, I have to disagree. While I *do* agree that fast food is a threat to your health if eaten regularly, what about all the fit people who occassionally stop for fries and a shake every once in a while? Eating fast food in moderation won't hurt you. closing them all down would basically be punishing the fit people who use it as a novelty just because some people can't control themselves.

Fast food restaurants are now responding to the obesity issue by offering healthier foods such as salads.

If fast food restaurants are closed, people are going to turn to fast foods in grocery stores. They will find stuff they can throw in the microwave or in the grease.

The shift from the restaurant to the kitchen with no change.

It's not the answer.

If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

what about personal responsibility??? The fast food joints also offer healthy alternatives, if a person willingly chooses to eat fatty foods that's on them, the whole of the population shouldn't have to suffer because some people have no will power. It's no illegal to eat fatty foods, so no--fast food restaurants should stay open; if you have a problem w/ eating bad food-stay away!

I do because the amount of fats and calories you eat, from a single serving of fries, is astonishing!
and these commercials, like the new McDonalds commercial where the guy doesn't buy grocery so he puts other things in the frig and cabinets because the value menu makes eating there everyday more affordable, it's ridiculous

Actually, it's up to the people to decide what to eat and where, instead of closing I think that what they should do is offer a healtier alternative, like Mc Donald's has now include some salads on the menu.
