i have two cake tins, and they are both starting to rust. one of them i bought about 8 months ago, and the other one is pretty old. Is this normal? or should i be seasoning them with oil, like with a wok?

You answered your own question at the end....oil will lubricate and keep rust from forming....after a lapse in use, the rust may still take over....

First- remove rust with a scrubber, rinse
Dry - in warm oven 5-10 minutes
Oil- rub tins generously with cooking oil-wipe of excess
Store- tins in/on high shelf away from sink and stove

In future - always dry well & uightly oil or spray tins after washing and store up in a dry place (away from sink/stove et al)e

i have the same problem. never had it when i lived in the USA but now i live in the Mediterranean and all of my cake tins are starting rust. I think it may have something to do with the amount of dampness in the air. i make sure my tins are completely dry before storing them, i even put them in the oven while its still warm to guarantee they are dry. This seems to help a bit.

After you wash the pan, put it in a hot oven for 15 minutes. While it is still hot, rub in a little vegetable oil, and put back into the oven for another 15 minutes. Turn off the oven and let it cool in there.

If it just looks dark and blotchy, no big deal....that helps things not stick. You just don't want any RUST. Don't put those pans in the dishwasher EVER. Ihave had mine for decades because I take care of them that way.

You would need to oil them. A better idea is to buy some silicone pans because they'll never rust and give a more even bake to start with.

After washing them immediately dry them. Any water at all left on them will cause them to rust

Don't put them in the dishwasher. Just use them for baking, and grease them well after drying them completely before storing them.

they are always going to rust after a while. the best thing is to grease them up before you store them and then clean them ust before you use them.
