Dear Simple One,

I don't think this could be considered as stealing for 3 reasons.

The commandment says "You shall not steal." Since God is perfect He is not going to tell His people to do what He has said is wrong.

The slaves had not been paid for their work BUT the worker is worthy of his pay.

The Egyptians willingly gave in order to get rid of the Israelites.

I didn't check my study Bibles or commentaries for that information but I need to eat supper so I'm just answering from what I know after reading the whole Bible for several years.

I hope you will do so as well. It continues to be by far the Best Answer in my life!

It explains further in Exodus... and throughout with the stories that the people of Israel were slaves... taking the jewels was their "payment" if you will for the forced labor.. so no.. they were taking what was ritefully theirs

They were not stealing. The Isrealites ASKED the Egyptians for these things.

What are you talking about?

Exodus 13:21 By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.

God promised the Children of Isreal great riches and might. If you keep reading you will see that the Egyptians GAVE them these things. Please re-read the chapter all the way through from the start to the end. Thanks
