cats do have a thing about confinement

perhaps this area feels like a place of hiding

if the pet is injured it must have care and longer time passing is indeed not a good idea

if you are of age where you can go alone to persuade the cat out perhaps that will work

they do react to how a person is reacting to them, so if your father approached with stress or loud talking - may have simply scared the cat

many cats do not do well with males anyway

do what you can to help the animal .... if still unable to retrieve may want to contact area animal control to pick up and transport to animal care, then you can take it from there with retrieveal and continued care

best wishes to you and your pet!

Well

Your kitty is afraid and you said hurt... Animals act oddly when they are hurt or afraid. Keep giving him food and water BUT if this areas is close to your home and he can see the house once you are sure he is ok stop feeding him there and put out food and water at your home only.

It sounds like he has been outside before so I would think he knows his way home...

He may not come home though...

I would feeed him for only a bit where he is then stop and put food out at the house.. see if he comes homes then

If you fear he is really hurt then You have to catch him.. but if he s active enough to jump out of boxes and give you such a run for your mony he does not sound terribly hurt...

A concern is letting him be out though is him getting infected with any number of things from other cats and dogs... drinking dirty water or eating bad food...

If you cant catch him.. you can often call Police or your local Pound and ask for help catching him... dont worry they wil let you have him back... Just explain what happened and ask them to help you catch him
The local ASPCA or shleter, animal catcher do this all the time and are pretty darn good at catching cats! They usually dont mind helping an animal owner catch an animal that got loose!

Good Luck

You say the cat was injured HOW?
How old is the cat? Older cats wander sometimes when they are about to die.
The cat is probably afraid of going to the vet or is trying to heal itself. Keep trying to call him from a short distance, say 20 feet so he is not so scared. One person the cat likes is best to try getting him to come out, too many people will just scare him more.
Be patient, most cats come out on their own if they love their home.

By the way that you discribe where he wnet he is gone. You see all cats large and small like the thrill of hunting and roaming. So if he found a place that he can do both he will be truely happier thier.

of course he will come back...cats grow used to routines such as eating in the same place each day or sleeping in the same place. within a day or two he will come back...don't worry about it, it'll all be fine

He'll come home. My cat went around the neighborhood and he's never been around there b4 but he found his way back. Our neighborhood is huge, too! he'll be back.
