Put the nail between the teeth of a comb - hold the comb teeth up if you are nailing into a wall so it will hold the nail.

I'm assuming you mean that you've been hitting your fingers with a hammer while hammering a nail into a board or something and that you're not a psycho that likes to hit himself with a hammer..lol...get the nail started with some small taps b4 giving it a whack...if that doesn't work just have someone else hold the nail...lol

Instead of a Hammer, use a Screwdriver or a Drill. Hehehe... hitting your own fingers with a hammer? That has to be one of the oldest accidents in the book.

Use a pair of pliers to hold the nail. I favor needle nose pliers for this
