I am talking about raw eggs in its shell we buy from the market. It is sometimes frustrating when the egg you bought is not as good as you would want it. Are there any ways to check to know if the egg is not an old stock?

The water trick is good... if you can bring a bowl or glass of water to the store with you!! ;) At the store, grab the eggs closest to the back of the fridge - they usually load from behind, so the freshest ones are there. The same goes for the bakery, even though they don't load from behind. They want to get rid of the oldest stuff first.

Happy egg hunting!

I think that fresh eggs sink in a pan of water, but bad ones float. Not sure, though ,if that's something you'd be able to do before purchasing them.

Put the egg in a glass of water - if it floats - it's good, if it sinks it's not very fresh.

use the date on the carton, but i think the best way is to break the egg, the egg stinks really bad when it is rotten.

Yup.....it's called a freshness or (sell by date). Dairy is usually good until about a week after that date.
If it's older than that...I wouldn't use it.
Check the date...that's why it's there.

I disagree, if it floats, it it filled with gas (methane) which means it is bad!! if it sinks it is ok to use.
