His tail may be injured. My cat's tail was broken and has remained sensitive ever since. He hates it to be touched.

Are you the only owner of the cat? ie: it was a small kitten when you got it.
If so, do you have kids?
If you do, perhaps they have been pulling it's tail or whatever!
If you are not the original owner, perhaps a previous owner has pulled it's tail.
Assuming of course that you've checked the tail for injuries etc and found nothing.
Some cats just don't like having their tail messed with at all, don't forget that they use it for balance.
Friends of mine have a cat that was a tiny kitten when acquired.
To the best of their knowledge the kids have never pulled it's tail and nor has the tail been injured or damaged in any way.
This cat wil turn and bite you if you as much as touch it's tail.
It never bites / hisses / growls no mater what else you do to it, but it just flips when it's tail is messed with!
We have 2 cats, both female from the same litter. One will turn on you if it's tail is messed with and the other loves it.. they've always been like this.

Hi i know my cat gets wound up when i touch his tail, but never hisses it sounds like he has hurt his tail badly. The only thing you can do is to get a towel and place it over you cats head like a wrap so he can still he and place it over its claws so he wont scratch you. Get some one to hold him my you take a look at his tale. Feel genlty for any lumps or bumps. if you cant feel anything then gently part the fur and check for cuts. If you find a cut then bath it with antiseptic or take your cat to the vet if you prefer, but if you feel a lump he may have broke it. So its best to see a vet in the long run..

One of our cats - a very friendly tom - got a door slammed on his tail once by accident and was like that for a long time.
He's probably hurt it or had it hurt.
Just make sure there's nothing tied round it.

Could be its hurt its tail. Take it to the vet, If you can't afford vet fees, try the nearest branch of the PDSA.

Has he always done it? If so it must be due to a bad experience he had before you got him.
If he has just started, it must be injured. Trip to vet.
