I didn't know society WAS concerned about people resisting arrest.
Police should be concerned, because they are the ones at risk when doing an arrest. As far as society at large goes, it makes for good TV, I guess. Personally, I think that if people commit crime, then resist arrest, they deserve whatever bumps and bruises they bring upon themselves in the process.
**EDIT: I meant the bumps and bruises the resister gets, not the police... I understand the disrespect part; I'm a teacher of at-risk teens who resist not only getting an education, but also resist receiving discipline when they abuse others' rights to get an education.
By resisting arrest, I understood that to mean, once they were caught, they put up a fight. A high speed chase is, indeed, dangerous, but I think of that as "evading capture," since no "arrest" has been able to have been attempted...

That shos that the previous poster and I think a bit differently, which is interesting.
Resisting arrest is a generally stupid thing tdo, for one thing, as it is sometimessyptomatic of poor education, theuse of illegal substances, or even an improperly handled mentall illness. As the poster above me said, however, risisting arrest does show disrespect for law enforcement. It also takes up the time that the officers should be using on other things; and sometimes, it can be very detrimental to safety. High-speed car-chases= not cool
