When I got married then I had longish hair that I always wore back but for the wedding I had the hairdresser curl it and I wore it down and pinned back at the right bits and I loved it! Get to the hairdresser for a few sessions before the wedding and try out your ideas and take photos so you can look back and make the best judgement for yourself. Decide on your head dress before you go so that the hairdresser can see what you're wearing and can work around this. You can have your hair down without it being in the way (the amount of clips etc that I had that were hidden were unbelievable, and as for the hairspray!!) and for it to still look natural - and if that's what you want then go for it. You want to feel relaxed with it exactly how you want it to be on your wedding day, and not a compromise.
Enjoy the run up to the wedding - exhausting but exciting!!

Make an appointment with a hair stylist, several if you can afford it. Go through the web, hair magazines, etc., and clip out pictures of hairstyles you like. Take a picture of your dress so that the stylist knows how formal you're going, and he/she will know if it's strapless, etc. BTW, if it is strapless, I always think hair looks better up. It's also helpful to take any headpiece/veil you're going to be wearing as well, or if that's not practical, then a photo of it, or at least take the tiara w/o the veil. Schedule several hours for this appointment, because you will basically be playing with your hair. Have the stylist try several different styles. Make sure you bring your camera, because you'll want the stylist to take photos of your hair...get front, side and back views--and if you do something wild on top, even a top view. This will be so worth any amount of money you pay for this. Best of luck to you!

Because yo want to look stunning, I would definately go with something that you wouldn't normally do, like wear your hair down. If you think you will be uncomfortable with it, put some up but leave most down. Maybe make it wavy and grow it out. Whatever you decide, make sure you're comfortable with it becaus the last thing you want to be worrying about at your wedding is your hair.

there is a mock-up hair and makeup for a bride-to-be weeks/months prior to the wedding day. from here. you can test different hairstyles on and decide which will look best for you. you can also bring your family and friends to help you out. aside from the hair stylist her/himself, their comments also add up because they are the ones who can see you as often with your hair tied.
normally, the hair is really set up so the face of the bride can be clearly seen. you can check out bridal magazines and assess for yourself. this is one reason why brides really invest more on the make-up than their hairdo. hardly it is set down esp if the wedding venue is open-aired. weather changes may make you uncomfortable having to hold up/fix your hair yourself during the actual ceremony or reception programme. you can always style your hair with curls tied up, a flower, a tiara or even glittering beads.
goodluck and i wish you a blissful married life. enjoy the wedding preparations until then. =)

Meeting with your hairstylist would be your best option to try several different things. I'm getting married in Dec., and because I have thin, straight hair, I'm going for something different - all spirals..... as you said you usually wear your hair up, it would definitely look different down, but remember that you also want to be comfortable on your wedding day.

Do you want to look your very best? Ask yourself what makes you look the most attractive..when you wear it down or when it's pulled up away from your face? It really depends on your face shape.
Alot of brides make the mistake of wearing their hair up, regardless of the fact that it does nothing for their face. I would prefer to look stunning then just ok for the sake of wearing a fancy up do.

I would suggest taking a picture of your dress to your hairdresser and talking to them. They'll give you ideas. Then you can go and buy a veil and/or tiara for your hair. Once you have these, you can go back to you hairdresser and they can help you finalize ideas.

most girls get married with hair up for exactly the reverse reason that you have there. It really annoys me cos I think everyone looks better with hair down. So go with your idea - hair down. The guys will drool like bloodhounds

I had that problem and plumped for kind of like an 'up-do'. It was twirled into like a bun/ponytail with ringlets and i had a tiara and a veil too.

I personally would wear it up rather then down. usually it gets pretty hot dancing and stuff which can make it go frizzy or flat depending on the hair you have. I had mine half up half down and my neck was pretty hot and sweaty from dancing and I got married in march.
