I don't want the bible, toran, god, jesus any science theories etc. to be used in answering this question. The only sources which can be used are pieces of information in which the entire contents has been proved true, or can easily be proved true.

No God, no texts which you believe in, no "God said so and he is perfect" etc. only stuff I can read and think "yes, that is easily proved true or has been already and is nothing to do with theory"

I would gladly accept any quotes from the bible if they had been PROVED true.

however, otherwise i dont want people just saying it is true. what a LOT of people fail to realise is that you have to explore the options and think for yourself to find the truth.

You cannot think that a book is true because it says inside it that it's true.

I have read it and if you followed the link you would know that. Yet I still have no REAL PROOF it is true, just the word of a bunch of people from the past and the odd part proved correct for real, such as there being a person called Jesus at the time.

Plus, it is a question about the bible, follow the link and see. I asked why people believe the bible is right and anything that contradicts it is wrong and will not believe anything the bible contradicts.

Think for yourselves people!

It's about time the answerers realise that yes, of course there are some historical truths in the bible. There are also plenty of scientific impossibilitiies, irrational claims, genocidal tendencies in the same book.
so, yes, the conquest of Israel, the building of the temples etc. are true, in part, but Noah's flood is demonstraby impossible. For sufficient water to exist, we'd be under about 3 miles of ice/water today, wherever we wwere on the planet. If the icecaps melt, as now seems likely, the world's water level will rise by about 30-40 metres. What happened to all the rest? Maybe it fell off the edge :-)

Ok, you are asking a question about a book without actually referring to it? hmmm. OK. Here goes.

Each and every person wishes to belong to something. Only a tiny percentage of people want to be completely alone. We all want to belong to something and take part. People also have a yearning to understand the mysteries of the world. People do many different things to achieve this, including the Bible, the Qu'ran, Most haunted on living TV etc. Other's don't think about it much at all.

The Bible, like other things, provides answers. Bear in mind that these answers are subjective and I know you want to be objective but different strokes for different folks. If you are searching for such answers and rely on the Bible (which has enough 'teachings' and stories to adapt to most situations) then it provides a perfect crutch. And if you are going to accept it then it's claims that it is absolute and true are easily accepted.

In terms of historical accuracy there is more evidence for Jesus' existence that any other person from iniqutiy (including Alexander the Great, Julius Ceaser and Aristocle) so accepting his historical truth it is an easy step to faith in the Bible.

I'm a Christian who believes in the truth of the Bible but I have tried to be as objective as possible. Theological speaking there are other reasons but I think this is the answer you wanted.

Why do you go to Church, Temples etcetera? You want me to tell you I quote you - "Why do some Christians
seem to think that the Bible is right and everything else is wrong?". And you don't want it referenced to Bible or "other fiction".

I am not sure what you think you are asking for here - but what you are actually asking is why do a group of people who have a central tenet of belief focused on the Bible believe that they are right.

Tuckman explained group formation in terms of forming, storming , norming and performing - you see this in Churches, Temples and other places of worship everywhere.

Losely speaking:

Groups initially orientate themselves through testing each others beliefs and behaviours, establising dependency relationships with leaders, other group members, and existing standards the forming stage.

There will then be conflict with polarization around interpersonal issues, and emotional responding. These behaviors serve as resistance to group influence and task requirements the storming stage.

This resistace is overcome in the norming where in-group feeling and cohesiveness develop, standards evolve, and new roles become prevalent. This is where intimate, personal opinions are explored with regard to the task ahead - the norming stage.

Finally, group energy is channeled into the task. Structural issues have been resolved, and structure can now become supportive of task performance - in this case for example spreading the Good News that Jesus is Alive and willing to Save everyone. The performing stage.

To read it an article and make up your mind whether this explains why they believe the same thing follow the link below.

If you think you have asked why they believe the Bible ? Which you haven't - that cannot be answered without some reference to Scriptures of the time taken into account within the archeological and historical contexts.

I believe that you will find this answers the question you actually asked originally. Whether or not you intended to ask this question I don't know but that is what you asked. Maybe your Church could help you if it is a question of doctrine that you want to clarify.

Please accept this in the sprirt of friendship with which it is offered.

In life we dot always get what we want and since the Bible was inspired by God and is so accurate that archeologists use it to find ancient civilizations and in over 3500 years the Bible has NEVER BEEN PROVEN WRONG man and his scientists sure have been proven wrong on thousands of occassions one example is in Job 26:10 where it talks about the circle of the earth thousands of years before the invention of the telescope or a flight into space mankind thought the earth was flat and if you sailed past the event horizon you would fall off the earth again the Bible has been proven correct as ALWAYS so if you want to live an insular life go ahead but you are missing out on so much I feel sorry for you to have such a negative opinion on the most important things in life must be so sad and lonely so empty hope one day you find enlightment and peace Gorbalizer

The answer is simple, the Bible is right because it is the Truth. It is like a textbook chronicling God's divine intervention with the world. Until the modern era the events of the bible were never refuted, the debate was whether or not faith in Christ would save you, this is why so many people converted to following Christ on a whim.

Unfortunately, the deceptions and lies of the devil and his followers and the passing of time from those who witnessed these events have caused many people to reject the truth. The same is true for more contemporary historical issues. The JFK assassination is a prime example, it is amazing how one movie can deceive so many generations to come, the same is true for the accounts in the Bible.

Quote:

"I mean, I go to church and read the bible etc. but I accept that it is not definite and also look into theories like the big bang and other religions' points of view.

I mean, all the bible explains is a theory, what someone thought happened at the first section is all theory, their is stuff that proves part of the bible being correct, such as there being a person called Jesus at the time but that doesn't make the whole bible right, does it?

I mean, there have been some things that have been discovered about other theories that are true, but that doesn't make all of the theories true.

You always get some people answering questions with either "of course" because the bible says so or "no" because the bible says so. "

You sound like the typical Christian that EVERYBODY is turned OFF about.

For someone that goes too church......

Too bad you have learned ZERO...ZERO...ZERO......

about God.

Because some people do and some people don't . You accept it yourself . it is a question about people . Belief . say it out loud now. belief . Again : belief . Get it ? How does the Christian creed start ? I believe etc. oops there's that word again . Forget proof . if you could prove it the game would be over . Why ? Because a revealed religion requires a leap of faith..or...belief. Doubting Thomas got the proof he was looking for but you and I and everyone else has to choose whether to believe the story or reject it. It's your call .

I think the bible doesn't explain everything; but it's not meant to. It's not a science book. It's purpose is to tell the story of God and His people and what he has done for them.
Are you looking for scientific proof of intelligent design?
Start at the bottom and work up.
I don't think you will find an intelligent answer on "answers".
Refine your question; filter out the emotion and ask again

i'm uncertain what your question is seeking. of direction there are references in the bible to places and activities which would be common via history, archaeology and so on. yet you won't be able to then make extra desirable that verification to incorporate the existence of god.

Jenny, you are asking a Biblical question in a Religion and Spirituality questions and answers forum. What did you expect to get as answers and reference points from Christians? If you do in fact attend church and think that the Bible is fiction then you need to open your mind and or first ask yourself why am I holding onto ideas that I think are based on fiction. Christ is real, the Bible is real. If you are in search of something else, there are many other avenues for you to explore. I would hope though that since you are in a church that you explore your Christianity first and foremost. I read your other question and I guess that's what your real search is about. I am just not sure that this forum was the one to ask the question in.
