Permanent members are the only members who can veto actions by the UN. The UN is not a democratic body in that the permanent members are the only members who can actually authorize the UN to do anything.

Thanks for the clarification, Lady, that is what I meant by permanent members control the Security Council.
One veto by a permanent member kills any further action. Nay votes are counted but a veto is final. And, it only takes one.

To my knowledge, none currently.
Please be aware that ALL members of the US Security council have the power to NAY a resolution. There has to be a YEA vote of nine of the Security Council members, whether they are permanent or elected. If the 9 votes are not reached the resolution will not pass. However if a single permanent member of the Security Council "nays" a resolution it is vetoed. Period.

The five permanent members are the USA, Russia, China, Great Britain, and France. Obviously, none of them are muslim.

Why does it matter? It is not Muslim countries that are a problem-------it is Muslim radicals, who do not follow Islam as it is to be followed.
