essentially the fillings are the same, amalgam, composite or other. However when it comes to crowns bridges metal dentures etc the quality of the material is thus different. You pay for what you get as the saying goes. Materials are expensive and involve lab work. its hard to appreciate the end result without knowing how it was achieved. The various compositions used in restorative materials may contain higher amounts of antimicrobial agents which incur cost to all parties, including the dentist.
So to answer: yes and also no.

Hi I would say it probably depends on your dentist.

I am registered at a private dentist, but also on the NHS register. The treatment I pay for, I am assured by my dentist is the same as a patient not on the NHS register but is subsidised by the government. If you do not attend appointments every 6 months you are taken off the NHS register and have to pay full private prices.

After I had my baby I was entitled to free NHS treatment for 12 months, during this time I had a filling, but paid a little extra to have a white one to match my teeth.

My partner says that it looks exactly the same as the previous filling that I paid for and the colour matches my teeth perfectly.

I'm sure there are some dentists that fiddle the nhs. The whole point of going private is to get a better standard of care. If you get a filling done private, if its a white filling it should be a better colour match, if its a silver filling it should be a stronger filling, but theres no way you can tell, you just need to trust your dentist!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is the same filling, although with private you can choose to have a white filling in your back teeth. The goverment has made it difficult for dentists to provide NHS treatment my dentist went private 12 years ago.

the nhs should be for EVERYONE,i cant afford private, but have no choice living on the iow,its costs me and my family a fortune,i hate paying my national insurance ,then paying a greedy private dentist 4 times more just to make him richer, they should be forced to accept nhs patients, and that scumbag blair should stop wasting our money and put it towards things that really matter in OUR country !

I think some fillings are only available privately, like white filling on back teeth. But yes, otherwise they are the same.

I hope everyone in the USA who reads these complaints about the NHS will realize that "National Health Care for Everyone" is NOT the way to do things.

No.

If you pay to go private you can ask for natural coloured fillings rather than that silver amalgam they use.
