We have been told that registers in the floors may cause soft spots due to the fact that the manufacturers have to frame around the ductwork and registers. We have found some models that do not have the floor registers. What is better ? We are looking to travel with the trailer across the United States and Canada and are looking for quality

I have never heard anything about floor registers causing soft spots, and have been camping my whole life, my parents have had both the ones that are in the floor and then the ones that are under the couch (the "duct work") both are effective. I will tell you what will make the floor soft and the walls for that matter. Floors if you ever have spillage in the bathroom after "pumping the water through" to clean out the holding tank, make sure you clean it up well, it will seep and cause soft spots. Also if you are planning on getting an awning, make sure you have it drain away from the tralier. Meaning detach the arms from the trailer and bolt them to the ground if you are planning on staying at a particular place for a long length of time. If you lwave the arms attatched the the trailer and it rains the water has no where to go but to slowly seep into the trailer, causing weak walls and eventually weak or soft spots in the floor. Have fun where ever you are headed.

PS, I am jealous ;)

I suggest that you contact different manufacturers and ask how their trailers are built. The method of ducting may not be the same with all manufacturers. Also, ask people with different trailers how satisfied they are with what they have, and if they have any problems.
As far as comfort is concerned, floor registers are probably the best, as heat rises. Not much worse than cold feet.
