I am no dentist or orthodontist, but I can offer my personal experience. My road to straight teeth began when I was in 4th grade and didn't end until I was a freshman in college.
I began with a retainer to push a tooth forward, and then I had to have some baby teeth removed. Then they told me my jaw was smaller and so I had too many teeth. To avoid the over crowding, I had 4-6 teeth pulled, it was so long ago I can't remember. I finally got my braces put on in 7th grade and wore them until the end of 9th grade. Once they came off I got to walk around for one week with nothing to worry about. Then the new retainer came into play. They made me wear a retainer to keep my teeth from moving. I had to wear it for 3 years. The first year I wore it 24 hrs a day unless I was eating, swimming, or showering. The second year I only wore it at night. The 3rd year was only one hour a day.
Just when I thought I was done, I had to get my wisdom teeth removed. THey were impacted (meaning they were below the gums) and hadn't come up yet. The dentist told me they were going to take them out in order to prevent them from knocking all the other teeth out of place. So I under went a surgical procedure to have my wisdom teeth extracted.
Well I hope this gives you an idea of what roads lay before you.

Couldn't tell ya. There are several different ways of going about it. If you have a small crowded mouth, like mine, you may end up doing just that. Just ask your orthodontist, love. Having teeth pulled in that situation can shorten your braces sentence, though. I'm 15. The average human has 32 - I have 24. I've had 11 teeth pulled. 4 in 2nd grade. 7 before 6th grade - 4 of those being adult teeth. I've had braces for 3 years with no sign of getting them off soon. Even after I get them off, can anyone say "Horrid lisp causing retainer."?
It's been painful and annoying. When I had those 7 teeth pulled, I had stitches in my mouth and I could not eat solid food for 3 weeks. Smoothies and Slimfasts. Even now, i can't have a hard shell taco - it cuts my gums where the teeth were removed.
I've always hated my smile, I consider it my worst feature. I like all of my other physical features except for my wicked teeth. But, do embrace your braces. Don't be one of those kids who won't take pictures or anything because of it. You don't want to look back 10 or 20 years from now and be reminded of how miserably you made yourself. I don't like my teeth either, but i still smile. :D
Unfortunately, not all of us were born with a smile like Julia Roberts'. Though it is a pain in the bum, It'll be worth it in the end.
Good luck!

At your age I would guess that the baby teeth will have to me removed, and some of your adult teeth may have to come in before the braces can be put on. The discomfort now while it is still a somewhat easy correction is much better than trying to do it years from now. It is going to be uncomfortable for a while, but the end result will be worth it to you. Best of luck with your new smile, and keep your chin up anticipation is always worse than the real deal.

That's what happened to both my sister and cousin ,they had to have all there baby teeth pulled before they got braces, because they wouldn't fall out on there own and it was messing up their adult teeth that were already in place but its all up to your dentist.

I had to have two baby teeth pulled when I had braces. And the adult teeth were pulled down. Because they were baby teeth, and I had the shot, it didn't hurt.
I wouldn't worry too much. Pain is momentary.

My wife had to have some teeth pulled so that the crooked ones would have room to straighten out with the braces. It happens and isn't so bad.

This will have to be determined by your orthodonic dentist.
Look at your mouth inside the mirror, if there is overcrowding, overlapping, crooked-ness of your teeth, most likely you will need to have minimum two teeth for top and bottom set each to be extracted.
Don't worry too much until the time comes. For now, take good care of your teeth :)

honey...you remind me of myself. big time.
i was 12 when i first went to the orthodontist about getting my braces. i had 6 baby teeth.
i had to go to the oral surgeon and get all 6 of them pulled and get surgical brackets to pull down teeth (slice open the gum)
its really not as bad as it sounds. it hurts the first day, but once you get your meds, youre FINE! they gave me novacaine (sp?), and IV, AND a gas mask. yeah. i was drugged..
its all worth it now! so dont worry about it dear...let me know what happens. i'm here for advice. i've been through it.

Send me a copy of your x-ray and I will make my best guess.
Some people are just a bit delayed as far as their dental age, but this doesn't mean they need a bunch of extractions to get caught up with the textbook normal.
