Vegemite is one of several yeast extract spreads sold in Australia. It is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract (a by-product of beer manufacture) and various vegetable and spice additives. It is very dark reddish-brown, almost black, in color, and one of the richest sources known of Vitamin B. It's thick like peanut butter, it's very salty, and it tastes like - well let's just say that it is an acquired taste

Marmite is a British savoury spread made from yeast extract, a by-product of beer brewing. It is a sticky, dark brown paste with a distinctive, powerful taste that polarises consumer opinion and prompts its advertising slogan that you either "love it or hate it". It is similar to Australia's Vegemite, Promite and Marmite—which is the name of a different, though similar, product (see below)—and Switzerland's Cenovis, and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

its something like a spread that tastes like a combination of beef stock, worchestire sauce, and other spices. its very british and used in some european countries, never saw it in the states and i dont think americans have a taste for it. Im american and found it to be horrible tasting, tho my british friends go nuts for it. the vegimite is similar, again, horrible to me.

marmite is a brand of fermented yeast scum, it tastes very salty and yeasty, and a bit like black bean sauce.

You spread it on your bread fairly thinly, and you either like it or you don't as the flavour is quite strong.

It is made by fermenting the yeast scum left over from the sediment in beer production with heaps of salt added and some minerals.

Vegemite is a type of fermented yeast scum made from australian beer, watered down with oil and sugar
