If I were the marshall, I would want to hire the best man for the job as my assistant. And I know I can rely on my son. This is the way of Louisiana - always has been, always will be. But it's still better than most countries around the world. ;-)

I cant speak of laws in LA but in IL there is a law reguarding nepotism as it relates to public offices and government jobs. Example, your case would not happen in Illinois. In Illinois the law states that no person of immediate blood relation shall work in the same department where one of the parties is the immediate supervisor of the other. However say the Chief Doe hires Officer Doe, this is different and allowed by law. Check laws in your state on the state website in reguards to nepotism. Given LA's sterling reputation through out the country, I doubt a law exists...as for being fair, is anything ever fair?
