At most home center's floor departments you will find a large container of floor adhesive remover. This will cost less than acetone and will not be as dangerous as acetone. Apply the adhesive remover as directed working in small areas at a time. Using a carbide scraper or floor scraper with a razor type blade scrape the adhesive off. Scrape as much adhesive off as possible then for the final cleaning use scotchbrite pads as needed. Let the floor dry then sand and finish as usual.

It may be easier to lift the floor boards and turn them over, re-fixing them with the clean side up. Incidentally, acetone is probably not the best idea for wood as it soaks into it, it is extremely flammable and seriously stinky!!!!

Tile stores sell adhesive remover. I bet they also have it at home improvement stores. It smells terrible, but it does work.
If the adhesive is hard, not sticky or flexible, you might be able to sand it off (since you're probably going to have to refinish the wood floor anyway). Try sanding a test patch and see what happens.

It sounds like you have access to a variety of solvents. Most solvents are difficult to get by the general puplic.
Try something based on Propanol, ensure the room is well ventilated.
If yoo cant get a solvent, then you will have to use a sander. These machines are difficult to use, try to find an expert to do it for you.

Hire a power sander and go over the whole floor with it. You will sand down to the bare timber. Then you start all over with sealing, staining and polishing.
Good luck and hope it turns out looking good.

why dont you just rip the tiles up and lift the floorboards and flip them over plus you will find them cleaner on the underside and easier to clean off
