Thinking young!

There isn't one. However, it appears that growing older is mostly caused by two things: free radicles and insulin. The best recomendation for extending your life span, looking younger than you actually are etc. is to eat a hypocaloric (low calorie) diet high in antioxidants. Low calorie would be nearly 1/3 less calories than someone at your ideal weight should be eating. This slows your metabolism down, your body will produce less insulin because it will not need as much, your body will produce more anitoxidants on it's own and your own body will generate fewer free radicles from excessive calorie digestion. Studies with animals have shown a life expectancy increase of 30%. Think of it like this. How long would your car last if you drove it everywhere at 200 mph? How much longer would it last if you drove it at 20 mph?

The difference in wear and tear would be dramatic. The faster your metabolism, the faster your cells divide, the quicker DNA damage develop, oncogenes can take over etc.

In humans there have not been any controlled studies, to my knowledge. However, there are people that have followed this lifestyle and in general they look about 20 years younger than they are. Moderate exercise is also good. Things like marathons are not since excercising generates free radicles as well. And if you follow the low calorie diet, then you will be on the bottom end of your ideal weight (look up at National Institutes of Health) which will also prolong your lifespan.

But it's difficult. There are too many good things to eat.

Curiosity - with out that you just get old

My grandmother is 98 still lives in a house and can use a computer - email and such. My great grandmother was alive and activity till she died at 99 one month shy of her 100 birthday and died in her sleep.

My mother is 68 and she can still walk on her hands across the living room to the amazement of the kids and grandchildren.
