It's put on. They feel more lady-like that way. It's disturbing. The same way a majority of lasbians put on the butch manly way of speaking.

In my experience and I have met a number of "gay" man only about half or less speak in an effeminate way. The one I have known from a baby only started to talk in that distinctive way when he reached sexual maturity

Most of them do. But I don't think they are trying to imitate women because women don't talk that way either. They speak in a high-pitched and unpleasant voice and look like weird creatures from some distant planet.They are something in between men and women. But be careful, because there are some who are gay and nobody would realize. They're viril and their voices are deep. Appearances are deceptive!

I don't know which planet you live on, but most gay men are indistiguihsable from others; save for having a sense of style and a bit of dress sense.
Anyway, it's no use asking me. I drive a truck, come across really manly and fool everybody.
You could ask a better question, like, "Why are gay men better in bed than women? Is it because they know what a man needs?"

i think it stems from the company they keep. i live with a gay man, and when we are alone he does get quite girly in his voice and characteristics etc, but does try to curb it when we are with other people, i think it may be because the majority of gay men spend a lot of time with women and it kinda rubs off - in the same way people start picking up peoples accents when they spend a lot of time with them. i may be wrong - but just a suggesstion.....

I know many gay men who would die before coming across as a screaming mimi.
