My son is 4 years old, is left ear is larger than is right, and it's pointed at the top, and the other isn't. He was born like this, and when I asked his Dr. she said it was normal. I don't want him being teased when he starts school. Please give me any advice and have you ever heard of this before?

This is a tricky one. Putting myself in your situation, what I would do depends on how noticable the difference is. If you know for a fact it will become an issue, I would definately think about surgery to correct it. If it's not that bad, I would NEVER mention it to him. IF he is ever teased about it, tell him he is unique and that other people will always tease others when they are threatened or jealous. If it got to the point where he was really upset about it, offer him the choice to have surgery. I speak from experience. My son has noticably bigger ears than average. I never mentioned it, to me he looks cute. When comments came from himself, then school, I told him that they were part of his beauty... look at Wil Smith I said! I did give him the option to have them pinned back, but he didn't want to know. Now he's 13, he has alot of confidence in his looks and hasn't mentioned it in years. Good luck :-)

Humans are not symetrical, its common to have fetures that do not match.

If you draw attention to it and make a deal out of it you will breed insecurity in him about it. There is nothing wrong with him. Its very rare that we look at a person and see the whole of both ears at the same time.

If you are so anal about it and worried you might consider having him go through some reconstructive surgery to make his ears more symetrical and matching. This is an extreme option, and really the only medical one you have.

Dont make an issue out of it. Your son has more to offer the world than his ears. Children will tease him about something, every child is made fun of. Its part of the growing process.

Other than letting his hair grow down over it to cover it up there really isn't anything that you can do.
