Let me get this sraight. You want to install Service Pack 2? Download
http://tinyurl.com/5bobl
it's an IT&Professionals version of SP2, or network installer. It does
the exact same thing as the Windows Update, but it's 266MB.

Is the problem w/ the service pack install? or the install for XP itself?

FYI, XP SP1 won't be supported after next week. You must have SP2 loaded.

Personally, if you asked me what would be great training for programmers, I'd hand you a linux computer. Just saying...

it sounds like you are trying to install the upgrade version on a blank hard drive.. it might be looking for Windows 98, ME, 2000, etc to upgrade to XP.. good luck with programming! it's pretty challenging! a lot more challenging than installing XP! ;)

How do you try to install it?
is it a Boot disc? If it is a Boot disc, you have to set your BIOS to boot from cd rom and then perform a clean install. It is better to ask for someone quelified to help you.

your trying to install sp1? if its giving you problems it may not like your xp key. if your trying to use a servicepack you should probably use sp2 also. sp2 includes everything in sp1.

change your key by reading here:

and type in -- serials.to -- in your browser to find another key.
