I had my appendix taken out 12 days ago, it was an open procedure with some slight complications which have left me with a 4 inch scar. Anyway, the thing is, it's at that intensely itchy stage of healing and is driving me crazy. One end of the scar is still slightly open so I'm worried about putting creams etc on until it's totally healed over.

What can I do to stop the itch - it's driving me up the wall!!!

Hello
Take piriton. You can buy it from a pharmacy

Piriton is a tablet. and please don't put anything on it if still open. it will get infected if not sterile

I had my appendix removed too, when I was much younger. Were you prescribed an antibiotic cream such as Bactroban? That will heal up the open end in a couple of days. It is the best I know of because it heals amazingly well with minimal scarring. I would try Benadryl Cream (over the counter) around the site, it will probably penetrate below the skin surface and calm the itch, and even a dab on the end that is closed up.
Itching is a very good sign... that means your body is healing!

You could try some vitamin E oil. It will help moisturize the scar to help stop the itch, as well as help it heal and not be as noticeable. But I would check with a Dr or Pharmacist before putting anything on it just to be sure that it's ok and not going to cause any problems.
