Bostons are born with short tails and no, you do not have to crop their ears. My puppies' ears usually stood by the time they were 7 weeks old.

I have a friend who used to breed Bostons. They are born with little stumps and nothing was ever done to the tails OR ears. I don't remember how old they were, when the ears started standing by themselves.

I believe carolyn b is correct -- dogs are bred for a wide range of characteristics, short stumpy tails being just one of them. So some Boston terriers may be born with normal tails, and some with tails that appear to be cropped.

Humans have been tinkering with dogs for a long, long time; that's how we came up with breeds as different as the chihuahua and the Saint Bernard.

my father has always had boston terriers. years ago, they cropped their tails but not their ears. but the last 2 my dad has owned where actually bred to have the short stump without being cropped. i was amazed at this. my father is 75 yrs. old, so he's had a few, over the years.

We owned a Boston Terrier, named Noodles. who naturally had no tail to speak of. It was a tiny stump. Her ears never had anything done to them either. She was so gorgeous--perfect keyhole markings and very black fur. I loved putting a red collar on her and taking her out.

She was the greatest little dog ever! Cute personality, loads of energy, wonderful doggie style!!!

Technically, no. they were just cut by veterinarians when they were still puppies, so they will look good when they grow up.
