So, I was at a friend's house and she picked up her cat and was petting it and loving it and she gave it a kiss on its mouth like three times. Like a peck- but right on the lips. Now, I love cats, and I didn’t think much of it at first, but I started thinking about it when I got home- is that a weird or normal display of affection to a cat?

Well, I think it's a little weird, but I do kiss my cats--only on top of their heads. There is no way I am putting my mouth on an animal's mouth. That's just disgusting. It is possible to transmit certain diseases/parasites that way, too. Same with dogs.
But, I know a lady who shares food with her dog--can you imagine eating after a dog??!! Yuck!
So personally, from a hygenic standpoint, I would say it's just not healthy. And frankly, the cats I know, don't really want your face right in their face anyway, it's an aggressive gesture from their point of view. They much prefer scratches and strokes.

No its perfectly normal, lol. You be so surprise what people does to their cats. Like me for instance; I took my cats to Pet Smart last year and they took pics with Santa. I also bought my cats a bed, they have their own beds. I also buy them shirts, they are so cute. Oh and that Temptations Cat Snacks, they love it so much. I practically spend most of my money on groceries for the cat snacks. If you love your cat that much, you will show affection to your cat. Aww!! I think that is the cutest thing.

Kissing any animal on the lips is just freaky to me. I love all my pets: fish, cats, dogs, horses, etc; and I've never felt the urge to kiss any of them on the mouth...or on the fur for that reason. For a lot of people it's normal, for me it's definately weird!

O, ov corse its normal! Its kinda like having ur own child. Ud do anything for it, right? U have 2 feed it, wash it, give it affection, and love it!!! I guess its kind weird to kiss it on the lips, but mayb on the nose or the head. I always kiss my cat on the head.So, ya its totally normal.

Ewww. Cats are cool, I've got three, but I would never kiss them on the lips. That's disgusting.

for the human it was normal ........the cat however thought it was a little weird......also depends on how the cat feels about intimate displays of affection in front of company....and im still not sure cats have lips .........

I hug and give kisses to all of my pets. They are like my little kids, so I guess that is my way of showing my affection. One of my cats likes it and gives little kitty licks back, but my male cat, he just looks at me like I'm an idiot, but still gives a loving nudge.

I think it's pretty normal. I'm more of a dog person, but I give my doggies kisses on their noses all the time. Lots of pet lovers kiss their animals.

i have a cat and love him to bits ,i do show affection but have never kissed him on the mouth ,so it is a bit wierd.

i have 4 cats i do love them but i have never kissed them you could end up with ring worm or something you don;t know what they have had in their mouth
