Many think the Holy Spirit doesn't work for them personally. But
the Holy Spirit gives us answers to our questions all the time.
A word on a sign. Something we hear in a conversation.
The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter.
Have you ever worried about something, and a realization. A thought came into your mind that helped you better undertand the situation.
That was the Holy Spirit comforting you.

I believe you are exactly right in your observation. I also believe that the atheist and non-believes are going to lay into you because they think that you are weak and blind and unable to take care of yourself or make a reasonable decision on your own. I only have one problem with the Holy Spirit. Most times it doesn't speak loud enough and i lose sight of the right path. I make mistakes and do things i do not think are right and by the time i hear the Holy Spirit i am already knee deep in the wrong behavior. Please don't let all the negative criticism that is going to come your way dampen your Spirit at all. God IS there for you listen to what he says like you always do.

In Holy Scripture (John 1:11-12) we are told that "He came to His own but His own received Him not, but to as many as received him He gave the power to become children of God and to believe in His Name." We are empowered to be children of God. That means we can follow a holy path. Christ's righteousness means holiness: that is, we are able to more and more live according to the Word of God. The Holy Spirit sanctifies our lives. This process of sanctification is neverending. Sanctification is not about choosing a TV in Wal-Mart. Sanctification is in the realm of morality and spirituality. Thus, we overcome the temptation to look for answers according to our "sign" in the newspapers, but look for an understanding of life and for wisdom in the Holy Scriptures. When we do wrong we are truly sorry and seek forgiveness not only from the person or persons we wronged (even ourselves) but also from Almighty God Himself. Because of Jesus Christ we are able to do this. Yes, we can enter directly into a close personal relationship with him and seek forgiveness and receive it just as a child may do so with and from a loving parent.
Most of all, the Holy Spirit gives us the power to believe in His Name. We know the name of the true Son of God. We can then seek to know more about Christ, and about our relationship with Him. We are not living in a confused spiritual state, one day serving our personal ambition or "Mother Nature" or some other "God", but we serve the one and only true God.
Please keep asking wonderful questions like this, and you will progress.
