Made with either vodka or gin, it's the nectar of the gods. Serve it in a glass. Drink it with pure enjoyment - and a couple of green olives.

As a seasoned martini drinker, my recipe is this:
You need a stemmed martini glass, 2 mammoth stuffed olives, ice, some dry vermouth and Vodka or Gin (I prefer Vodka).
Put the ice into a small pitcher, add just a drop of the vermouth, and an ample supply of Vodka. Stir the mixture until the mixture is cold. Drop the olives into the glass and pour the now cold martini over them. If a little ice drops into the glass while pouring, that's OK too.

Cheers!

Vodka and GIn and Dry Vermouth, It depends on how they order it is how much vermouth to put in. Now if you are buying Vermouth make sure you get Dry, They also have vermouth that is sweet that is for MANHATTANS with whisky.

A Martini is served in a Martini glass, and if they like it "Dirty" than that is with an OLIVE if they like it extrememly DIRTY than pour a bit of olive juice in it to cloud up the drink.

Now the trick to a good Martini is if they want it shaken or stirred, You put in in the Mixing Glass if you want it shaken and shake it litely for about 10 secs. Now a good martini is stirred, so you put it in the glass and stir it with a glass stick. Drink it slow and it goes great with a nice Surf and Turf dinnner.

During WW II, while the US was testing atom bombs in the Pacific, scientists (with a sense of humor) came up with a new way to mix Martini's. On the island of Bikini they set off an explosion that mixed the ingredients of a Bottle of Gin and a Bottle of Dry Vermouth. They called it a very dry Perfect Martini.

Secrets to a good martini, taught to me by a guy who had been bartending for longer than I've been alive: a chilled glass, good vodka or gin, and skip the vermouth. The recipe traditionally calls for vermouth, but so little that you can't even taste it. If you put more than the recommended 3-12 drops in, you'll ruin the martini, so it's best to just skip it.

A classic martini is made from 2 ounces gin, or vodka, and a splash of vermouth. The classic martini's dryness is defined by the amount of vermouth added. The less vermouth, the drier the drink.
Dry = 1/4 ounce vermouth.
Extra dry = a few drops of vermouth.
Extra-extra dry = straight gin or vodka.
Anecdote: Winston Churchill made his martinis by pouring gin into a pitcher, then glancing briefly at a bottle of vermouth across the room.

a martini is either gin or vodka with a touch of vermouth. vermouth is a really bitter wine. i like a splash of olive juice with mine and that is called a dirty martini. they are eith shaken or stirred. shaken makes them colder think. Bombay Sapphire gin is the best martini. martinis are very strong with a strong taste of alcohol.

I think everybody is answering with info about "a Martini" as in a mixed drink, but maybe you are asking about "Martini" as in "Martini & Rossi."
This should be sipped and served VERY cold. Stick with the white one, BTW. Serve it as you would a rum coke, in a high ball glass.

2 oz gin or vodka
2 dashes of dry vermouth
"lemon twist, olive or cocktail onion"
Dry: Use one dash of vermouth
Extra dry: 1-2 drops of vermouth
Dirty: Add a dash of olive juice

Combine everything into a shaker with ice, shake or stir well, strain into a chilled cocktail glass, add the olive, lemon or onion and serve.

Stirring = clear, strong flavour. Shaken = cloudy, masked flavour.
