Recipe #1
1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup of baking soda
1 teaspoon of liquid soap

Recipe #2
1 pint 3% hydrogen peroxide
2/3 cup baking soda
1 tablespoon liquid soap
Mix this up at the time of use (the mixture must be fresh to work properly). Pour or sponge it on dog. Knead it well into his coat. Be careful to keep the formula out if the dog's eyes, nose and mouth; you can use a sponge to carefully wipe it onto his/her face. Let it sit five minutes then rinse with plain water. Becareful not to get it in the dogs eyes. Cover them with a wash cloth if needed. If a second dose is needed mix a new batch from scratch. The mixture reacts with the chemicals in the skunk spray and oxidizes them. If the mixture is not fresh, the reaction will not work.

Mix the following ingredients together in a pitcher...

For a small to medium size dog....

1 quart hydrogen peroxide (3% strength)
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon liquid handwashing soap.
Double those amounts for large dogs.
Then...

Rinse your dog with water - get him wet down to his skin.
Slowly pour the mixture all over the dog and rub it through his hair.
Let that soak for 3 or 4 minutes.
Rinse it off with water.
That's it!

Your dog won't smell like a skunk anymore. (or like a can of tomato juice : )

This is what we use.

1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp. Liquid Soap

Mix all together and rub onto dog or other animal. Leave on for 5-10 minutes. Wash the animal off.

This mixture should not be used near or in an animal's eyes!

This mixture must be used immediately after mixing and cannot be STORED.

Good old tomato juice is the trick. Sorry, been there 3 times this summer already! Darn skunk.

Tomato juice--if it doesn't work, good ole vinegar might.

Don't leave hydrogen peroxide on ANYthing 5 minutes. It bleaches out the skin. It'll fade back to normal, but I don't think there is a need for that drastic measure.

Tomato juice is the old school recipe. But to mask the odor of skunk I suggest bathing your dog in pig feces.

Go to discovery.com and do a search on it. There was a show that featured skunk smell and the best remedy. Can't remember the name of the show, but two men were hosts, and one of them was bald w/glasses and a fumanchu mustache.

Tomato juice doesn't work...

1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide solution
¼ cup baking soda
1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid

thats the one my mom gave me... and it works

**IMPORTANT!!! Don't leave the solution bottled up...they can cause a reaction, so dispose of it after using.

Try ODOBAN spray. That stuff kills ALL smells. Buy it at Walmart.

I'd use it on the dog outside, then give him/her a bath to wash it off.
