Heresyhun.., it appears God is hiding since no one has ever produced any credible evidence demonstrating his existence.

I'm not hiding from anyone and God knows where I am if he (it?) existed. It's his move, not mine...

I'm more than willing to acknowledge his existence the moment he shows up.

Somewhere, sometime, no one had a book to rely on..they relied on common sense and social good for all. It always comes back to "do unto others as you would have done unto you." IF more people lived by this 'rule,' the world would be a far better place, with or without a bible that seems to lead many people into unGodly places. Good luck

The True Church does not rely totally on the contents of the book it compiled at the end of the 4th Century. It relies on the fullness of truth it received directly from the lips of God incarnate. The Church taught the fullness of this truth for 350 years before it gathered some of this truth into a book. And the Church would have continued to teach the fullness of truth to the present day even if it had never compiled such a book. Jesus never said we must look everything up in a book. He did say that whatsoever His Church binds upon Earth is bound in heaven, and that whoever listens to His Church listens to Him.

wow if you keep asking these hard questions, some one is going to blow a fuse or hear that little voice "system failure" coming from the mother board and then have mental breakdown or need to create another salvation experience and create another "me" or old me and then claim Damascus Road Experience like Paul

I would base my religion on pop culture, a sick reality tv type religion that only the smart survive

Out wit, Out last, Out play

history is written by the winners, not the loosers.

I would base my religion on a constant evaluation of the actions of the believers...looking at what they do, since beliefs shape actions, just evaluate actions and then give it a name..

so far, Consumerism is a good current one in US

Yes, that would be drastic, that is absolute desperation!
The Holy Books bear the Word of God, which provide light, life and the straight path for all mankind.
Besides the Holy Books, there are nothing precise for man to use as standards for good and bad, right and wrong, true and false. That is complete loss.

I've often thought about this. Especially with my history of searching for the truth and not finding it in religion. I do know that my early training is what even put the idea of religion in my head. So, it would be fascinating to know what thought processes I would have without it. I do feel good about myself that I was able to come to the conclusion that I have on my own through study and deep thought.

When you study tribes who have not had formal reading skills, they have passed down their beliefs through talk and communication, such as dance.
The native Indians of North America had no written text, but they managed to teach each generation.
My great-grandfather was an extremely attentive person and he taught all of our family much of what was important and still is to this day.
I do rely on the Bible, but also my family did spend a lot of time making sure we knew.

I am not addressing your question. I am adressing you.

Ever since sin entered the world, mankind has made various attempts to hide from God. Adam literally tried to hide in the garden (Genesis 3:8). Years later God revealed through Paul that many of the Gentile nations had dodged the existence of the True God by reasoning Him out of their minds (Romans 1:21-23), But God said that the theories they had developed to avoid Him were "futile speculations" (1:21).

religion is governed by the Holy Book. if you know and aware of the existence of the law but do not follow, i think the pagans are better than you. On the last day God will spare the pagans on the ground than they are not aware of god's existence and throw u to the everlasting fire for not following God's law after knowing it.

So, constructing religion or lack thereof entirely on what your senses and perception give you? Hmm...

Y'know, I hate to credit grumpy German philosophers with anything, but on this one I'd have to go with Feuerbach's ideas. I'd probably revere (as opposed to worship) things like...well, I personally probably wouldn't choose the sun, but the rain would be a big one for me. Revering the things that cause life make sense to me, and apparently did to a lot of cultures that didn't have holy books.

Guh. I think I just called myself a hippie. A potential hippie, but still. Guh.

I would base it on the kind of spiritual genius that all indigenous cultures seem to have. They are not weighted down by a book, but find a collective spirituality in their shared experience of the divine. Their wisdom runs deep. We can all trust it if we will only respect it.
