Wow! That's a long time. You should feel blessed to have enjoyed their company for soo long. I lost a 7 1/2 year old a year ago this Sunday and I was told that was long. I heard they can live from 5 to 15 years if they are happy. Apparently your baby was very happy. That's good to hear. I'm so sorry for your loss.

That's a GREAT age for a parakeet! Small parrots don't normally live that long... Research it more on the net. My friend's parrakeet lasted 11 years and I thought that was great!!
