death is black. When I nearly died, everything slowly got black, my hearing was leaving and in my head, I heard my favorite heavy metal song, then I left and felt and remembered nothing until I came back to conciousness. So I would say that death is like sleep. You don't notice the pain when you're dying. (thanks to your body) I don't believe in an afterlife. so I would say that once your brain dies, you're gone. Asleep forever.

One can have a painful death, or it can be a painless event through modern medicine.
With the usual quick death from drug addiction, the typical drugee has tremendous pain, and then, it fortunate, dies an often painless death; especially with medical morphine.
Note: the the pain and suffering (which could have been avoided) came before his death and death was his relief.
Say no to Drugs! (alcohol is a drug)

I am convinced there is life after death for one reason: Jesus Christ died and was placed in a tomb—and three days later came back to life.
Think about it a moment: What would it take to prove to us that there is life after death? The answer is clear: Someone would have to die, and then come back to life again. It wouldn't be enough for them to have a so-called "near-death" experience; their death would have to be real. And it wouldn't be enough for only one or two people to see them; it would require many witnesses.
But has this ever happened? Yes—when Jesus Christ rose from the grave! His death was real; hard-bitten Roman guards made sure He was dead before they took Him down from the cross. And His resurrection was real also, because hundreds saw Him during the next forty days. Paul, writing over 25 years later, noted that "he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living" (1 Corinthians 15:6).
How could this happen? It happened because Jesus Christ was not just another man. He was God's only Son, sent from heaven to save us from our sins. Only He could say, "I am the resurrection and the life. ... Whoever lives and believes in me will never die" (John 11:25-26). This can be your hope, by giving your life to Christ today.
It might not be "cool" to think about death, but it is realistic. It's no accident that the world's greatest literature and philosophy deal with the fact that some day our lives will come to an end. Death is inevitable, and to deny it or ignore it is tragic.
But when we know Christ, death no longer grips us with fear—and the reason is because Jesus Christ has conquered death! How did He do this? He did it first of all by dying on the cross to take away our sins. You see, death came into the world because we have rebelled against God—which is what the Bible calls sin.
But by His death and resurrection Christ broke the chains of sin and death. We don't need to fear death any longer, because Christ has overcome it! The Bible says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23).
I invite you to receive that gift right now by asking Christ to come into your life as your Lord and Savior. God loves you, and He does not want you to spend eternity separated from Him. Open your heart and life to Christ—and when you do, God will not only forgive your sins but He will adopt you into His family forever. Once you know Christ, you have "an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you" (1 Peter 1:4).

An athiest stands a better chance of going to heaven than a
hypocrite, because he doesn't even believe in it. Where a hypocrite will be worried.
