He may have a urinary tract infection. My sis-in-law is a vet. When my cat did that she diagnosed her with a UTI. Your cat may have a more sensitive system than the other cats. You can usually help by changing his food to a "urinary health' formula or try changing the type of litter you use. The "clumping" formulas will stick to his privates and cause a UTI. Best check with your vet.

I have 2 litter boxes for 3 cats. And I have to have 1 upstairs and 1 down. If I don't, I would have messes all over the place. They are just lazy.

I have two cats and had the same problem, it is not a dirty Litter box that causes this, it is the size and height of the litter box. I started using a plastic storage container, it provides the height that cats need and is very roomy. Have not had any problems since and the area around the litter box stays very clean.

Unfortunately when my kitty is lonely, like if he's alone overnight or if he gets upset (pissy, really) about ANYTHING he does his duty anywhere but his box. The only solution we have used is to keep him in a central location (in the same room/section of the house as his box) until he REGULARLY uses it again...then we let him roam around the house...after he has proven that he knows his box and what to use it for. I don't know why they can't just meow at us or cuddle when they want attention...that would make more sense, wouldn't it? Cats are brats- thats all there is to it! lol. Good luck!

if he has been checked by your vet and has no medical problem. try confining him to a room by himself with a cat box, food and water and see if you can retrain him. or try a product called cat attract. good luck.
