A threat is an "indication of something bad: a sign or danger that something undesirable is going to happen"
Encarta ® World English Dictionary
A warning is "sign of something bad coming: a threat or a sign that something bad is going to happen"
Encarta ® World English Dictionary
I would say according to the dictionary that it is both a threat and a warning.
Either way it is a very inappropriate statement. Only God can condemn a person to hell.
I am a Christian and have had other Christians make that statement to me. They didn't even ask if I was a Christian. That statement gives the person making it a feeling of superiority.
Trust me, that is not a Biblical way to talk.

If they are a Religious Chistian (which is sad), you will feel threatened. But if you get saved anyway, good.
Some are saved by Fire.
If they are a Holy Chrisitian, walking in Holiness, you will feel comdemned, but you can run to Jesus and get Saved.
There is a difference between Feeling Threatened-----and Feeling Condemned.
Condemnation is GOD warning you in LOVE.
Cause HE Loves you and wantst to keep you out of a Devils hell.
People can get Pridefull cause their Saved, and the Devil make them think there better than others, and start Condemning Others in their Own Way without the Power (Love)of GOD----- CARNAL CHRISTIANS.
Thats what their called, Bless their Little Hearts.!

It's a warning. We are commanded to spread the Word. Sometimes I think that when "Accept Jesus or go to hell" is thrown out right away or in such a way as to offend it is usually by a new Christian not yet mature in the Lord. Don't be offended they are just on fire for God and with time they will develop a more smooth style! God Bless You All!!!!

they think it's a threat, but only god can judge. If the people who say this really paid attention to the Bible then they would know that by saying things like "you're going to hell" that they are setting themselves up for hell as well. They should remember that only God can judge.

If you told your child "don't touch that stove or you will get burned". Is that a threat or a warning? Are you threatening your child or warning him/her of the danger?
Difference is Hell is hotter and lasts longer.

It's a pathetic attempt to bully you and make themselves feel as if they have power.
If history and life teaches us anything, make it FORBIDDEN and people will flock to it. Early Christians were rebels from Judism and Christians in the mid-east are forbidden to practice faith in Jesus, yet they risk to do so.
Kinda like we taboo tattoos for teens...so what happens? They FLOCK to the ink parlors. How about we jam tattooing down our nations throat and forbid Christianity. I bet that we'd be a solid nation of Christians if we forbid practice of the faith.

I believe it's intended as a warning. However, it comes across as a direct threat--I personally feel it's flat-out spiritual blackmail.

honestly, it's just a sign of their lack of intelligence, their ignorance.
Hell is the grave, a pit, where we lay until Jesus Christ call us to his judgement. if we are not one of his few, his chosen, his elect, we will be cast into the lake of fire.
ppl like to be able to tell ppl that they don't like that they are going to hell. it's a threat, they have no reason to 'convince others' that they need Jesus. if someone says i don't want Jesus, they don't no how to say, OK, you must not be one of his predestinated, so enjoy your life, i know what awaits you. take care.

Neither. In their belief it is a good deed and a command to take the good news to the world. From my perspective it is rude and annoying. Oh well, time will tell.
