So do I go to homecoming with the girl who I've been best friends with for awhile (but recently we've kinda been drifting apart) or go hang out with a new friend that I really like? My 'best friend' wants to party and drink and smoke and I don't want to do that, but i know that if i go with her i probably will. But on the other hand she's always so depressed now-a-days that shes relying on homecoming to bring her out of this funk. My new friend though, we were just goign to get dressed up and go out on the town and it would be soo fun! Rah! Advice?

I can see why this is a difficult decision for you. On the one hand, I would say it would be good for you to be a loyal friend. However, on the other hand, I think it's good for you to keep yourself out of temptation's way. Is it possible for the three of you to go out together? If not, I would say schedule another (non-partying) plan with your old friend, and have a great time with your new friend at Homecoming.

Rah! You will have to tell the friend that you are not taking her because of the drinking and smoking, and don't use the drinking and smoking as an excuse to date someone else, mean it.
And if you have in some way asked the friend, or let her or led her to believe you would be taking her, to dump her would be rude and cruel.
Or, you could take the friend, and set up the rules, no drinking or smoking, or I can't go out with you anymore.
Or, find the friend another date.
Good luck.

Drinking and smoking doesn't sound like a good idea. go with the new friend and ask the old one to come with you two.

Why can't the three of you go together? If one of them thinks your friendship is exclusively hers, you have a problem you need to get rid of! Ask them both, and if one of them doesn't want to go, that will take care of that!
