You go to a place called ptrp. ( Physical training rehabilitation practice). You will stay there till you get better. They may grant you a month a con leave if you are there so long.

Then once you get better you get to start basic all over. But the Drill Sgts will know that this is your second run so some may not be as hard on you.

My husband broke his ankle in Basic, and got sent to ptrp for 6 months. He did get a month of con leave and went home. When he got back he went back to basic starting all over.

In basic training you are put on "casual" status while you are injured. Once you have completely healed and are cleared by the doctor, you will restart basic training. Casual status is pretty boring, you do odd jobs on base (assuming you are not too injured for this) The only good thing about casual status is that you are not given a bad time by training instructors. It is pretty laid back. Sometimes people who have completed basic training and are waiting to be sent to their training base stay there for a couple of days before they leave Lackland AFB. That is why I was there.

It depends how long the recovery takes if he is lucky he will not have to start over again.
I`m not sure if they send him home unless that he got hurt so bad that there is mebay not a recovery.
If they would i take a guess and say a couple days there is paperwork to do and his thing to pack together so it takes time.

If they're hurt so bad that they cant walk anymore, even with treatment and rehab, they will get medically discharged. If its only a broken ancle or sprained muscle then they will be put in a casual flight to heal their injury. Its similary to basic training, but not as physical, your still expected to train and stuff, just not at the super fast speed they expect you to in regular training. I know that they will let you go home for a short period of time if your injured and your rehab is expected to take months, a guy in my basic flight who was injured got to go home for christmas to see his family. Being in basic training for 6 weeks sucks in of itself, being in a casual flight and having to be in basic for months must suck horribly. Hope that helps.

That's up to the Base Doctors , who will do all that can be done medically .
Expect your service person to be healed and returned to training, if at all possible .
Odds are you'll soon hear from your service member saying He's okay .

They will treat the wound. If there isn't permanent damage, they will put you back through the system. I had bursitis in both ankles, hurt like a mother, but they fixed me up and I went on to graduate. They are used to people getting injured and are quite qualified to treat them.

They will normally just let you get better, and then start you over in another basic training group ( sadly you have to start at week one again)

If you injury is bad enough they may let you have a leave to come home till you get better, then you would report to another training unit.

No telling with the AF but make sure the doctor checks your sciatic / spinal cord nerve. What does the MRI say ? Any bulging discs ? Might be pinched nerve . . . can they get it unpinched ? Get whatever it is fixed BEFORE you leave. good luck
