Check with goodwill or a 2nd hand store.
Check with a toy store to see if they have any items that they are discontinuing and willing to sell cheap or give away (they may be able to use this as an accounting write off).
Put a sign up at a grocery store and let people know you are accepting these items. Often there are moms who are getting rid of books and toys when their kids outgrow them.

Finally, ask the parents if they have some toys they want to donate.

Wow - Are you in Sydney Australia? I have lots of great books and toys here that I am always dumping in the 'vinnies' bin to be recycled.

Perhaps you can ask at your local school if you can put a note in for some used books and toys. I am sure that you will have many many people that will donate stuff. They would much rather see it go to a good cause then dumped in a bin or re-sold elsewhere.

Goodluck.

Have you thought about asking the parents for donations? I'm sure they have tons of toys and things their children push to the side and the other children would enjoy.

Check out your local Salvation Army or Goodwill. They always have children's books and toys. You can also try a few yard sales.

yea, just have kids bring books in that they enjoy reading. They can share it with the class and you can read it to them. Also, you can send a note home to donate books for the "class library"
Hope this is some help!

Check with churches and other charitable orginizations in your area. Many of them are often looking for community projects. Suggest that they 'adopt' your kids as a project.
