I am writing this because I just saw a comment that said that professional stylist are trained to style all hair types. I have heard of professional stylist who are white and are able to style black hair , I have seen them at hair shows, etc. And I have also visited a white stylist once. Just for a trim and style. She trimmed my hair fine, but the styling was bland and boring . I find it a rare occasion to find a non-black stylist who can not only style hair, but help maintain its health.

I think you have a point there. No matter what they trained for, they don't have to deal with it themselves. What looks good on one customer won't work for everybody. So I guess it does help to have a stylist who has the same texture to their hair as you do. They would have the same battles with the same problems, like it's too oily, too dry, too brittle, too limp, etc... Experience with your own hair is probably one of the best things to draw on for doing other people's hair.

Well, I'm white and I went to a black stylist before and I think she did a great job with my hair. It wasn't so boring and I think the styling and the form of it was good. I also enjoyed talking to her. I think it just depends on the personality and skills of that specific stylist, hair dresser and I don't think it's a matter of being black or white. It's true that she might be better at styling a certain hair type but it doesn't mean that she is bad at all the other ones.

I am a white female and my stylist is a gay black man and he has done the best to my hair than anyone ever has but my son will not go near him. I think that it is fear that people have when it comes to a hair stylist. I think that it takes trial and error in finding a great stylist no matter who they are. If you have a stylist that you trust and are happy with, then maybe you had better stay with that person unless you are brave enough to try different ones.

I'm a woman of color and my stylist is as well. Nothing against Caucasian stylist, but I just think a person of your own race would better understand how to treat your hair. that person would also know what styles look better on you.

I am highly skeptical when it comes to two things in stylists:
- males
- anyone that doesn't have "kink" to their natural hair.

To answer your question direct...I'd much prefer someone of my own race....or someone with hair textures like mine to do my hair.
- Whereas other races may be very knowledgeable...it's just a level of comfort you get.

But I think the world is slowly...VERY slowly starting to blend a little more.
- I mean look at music....it's very diverse.
Christina Algulera and Fergie have more soul and pop than any black girls I know!

Soon...all races will "blend" in hair care as well....
I'm sure it will happen....

It might be a good idea to go with a black stylist if you are balck because they are probably more experienced in dealing with that type of hair

sure, i've got self assurance they'd be the only ones who understand my hair & what it is going to take to realize by potential of attractiveness targets. Race isn't lots the element---I desire stylists who've an identical style of hair & prefer comparable thoughts---which oftentimes finally ends up being somebody of an identical race. and that i desire an identical intercourse---lady. i've got not got a great style of religion in a guy doing my hair/makeup-- there's a false impression that adult men of a definite orientation are lots extra probable to be born with a attractiveness-and-layout-industry-expert gene.

I have seen white beauticians do black hair (sometimes even better than black beauticians) but they ALWAYS worked in a black shop. The most surprising was a white man named Bubbles (r.i.p) in my area that could hook up a sistah's head..walk in looking like 2 dollars..walk out looking like a million bucks!
