Did the earth rotate around the sun faster in Biblical times?

Question

According to the Bible, Methuselah lived to the ripe old age of 969 (Genesis 5:27).

Since this is clearly biologically impossible do Christians believe that during Biblical times the earth rotated around the sun at a much higher rate than it does now, so that the years went faster?

Eh they didn't have a conception about the earth rotating around the sun but if anyone would be a good farmer they would at least keep track of the four seasons and likely as well as unwittingly keep relatively accurate track of what the length of a year is. But to answer your question they believe that these people were somehow more perfect and the atmosphere was good and a whole host of other reasons to explain this strange anomaly. To put it simply, they believe because they are told to believe. That's why it's like pulling teeth to discuss geology, astronomy or physics with a die hard Christian that takes the Bible literally. They keep their unwaivering faith in the Bible because they are afraid of the consequences if they don't.

There are so many chronological discrepancies faced in the bible, that this one seems fairly minor. What about the idea that the bible places the earth at around 12,000 years old? If the earth were rotating faster, or means of measuring time back then made years shorter than theye are now, then that 12,000 would be diminished further.

I don't mean to disrespect anyone's value system, but I just find that impossible to buy. Look at it this way; pass the bible on to any historian and see what they, looking at it as a professional, make of it as a literal account of what happened. I dont think theye will give it too much mileage

NOW it is biologically impossible to live for 969 years, but then.....

but first of all, for the time to really change because the earth is slowing down, we'd have to go back millions of years before it made any remarkable difference in our days.

the bible says that there was a layer of water above the atmosphere. (Genesis 1:7 Thus God made the firmament and divided the waters which were under the firmament fromt the waters which were above the firmament.) The firmament, being the sky, had water below and above it. This layer of water/ice, would have pressurized all the gases in the atmosphere, and it would have blocked the sun's harmful rays. this layer of water is most likely what greatly contributed to the flood.
with a layer of water and ice up there, the plants would grow to be GIGANTIC because they would have an unlimited amount of carbon dioxide, and the people would be in a different realm of health. the world was new then too, so everything was organic, and everything was perfectly safe.
in other words, with nothing on this earth to harm you [animals and insects didn't bite until after the flood], there was NO disease, and the sun was completely harmless, why shouldn't you live to be VERY old? what's shortening our lives now? now we have cancer, disease, fever, pesticides, antibiotics..... without all this and with our blood being saturated with oxygen (which would be the outcome of pressurized oxygen), what's to stop us from living to be 900?

The calendar was different. Who's to say what constituted a year at that time. Obviously they did not know that the earth was round......that the earth rotated.......nor that the earth orbited the sun. The calendar would have been created based on other theories of time and place. Scientists can tell the adjustment of time from year to year in relationship to the speed in which the Earth travels around the sun. If it had altered rapidly 2,000 years ago.....we would have seen a sign of this even now.

I venture to say that the explanation for this has little to do with the Earth's orbital practice and yet everything to do with human time keeping. :)

Before the flood in Noah's day, people lived to be over 900 years old.
Earth was much different then.
The Bible says in Genesis, that there was a water (ice) shield over our atmosphere. This did several things. 1) It keep out harmful rays from the sun. 2) Our air pressure was about 2 times greater. 3) We had almost twice the oxygen level in the air.
This was a very healthy environment.
Today doctors are beginning to use hyperbolic chambers to help treat and cure a number of sickness and injuries.
People use to grow to about 11 feet tall (we have skeletons and remains), and since reptiles keep growing their whole lives, they became what we call dinosaurs (in the Bible they are called dragon, Leviathan, Behemoth and unicorn).

It is thought, in general, that people lived longer at that time because the envirnnment was more pristine (no pollutants), and had a different diet.

I have heard a theory from physicists but I cannot remember the name of it. This particular theory describes the "shape" of time as cone or funnel shaped...we are at the wide end of the cone and time seems to "take longer." Back then time woudl have been at the narrow or pointed end, where time occured "quicker." If true, then this could resolve the debate between those that say the earth is young and those that say the earth is old...... because time is relative," according to Einstein.

Why is this biologically impossible? Impossible in our current understanding perhaps. The answer may lie in the rotation of the earth around the sun and/or in the way mankind was created.

The Bible speaks of mankind being created and that sin destroyed the relationship they had with God. This eventually led to decay in the created order. Some of this may go to supplying the answer.

Who's to say? The book. "The 12th Planet", says that there
is another planet that travels through our system at a larger

The book said that many legends are based on planetary

No the sun did not. the situation is that when God create Human/ adam they are 100% prefect so that why they live long. Methuselah is also early in the bible.
