What changed me: Let's just say I have become a little more dependant on morden medical science. This makes me appreciate life and not want to waste time on negativity.

That's is the beauty in loss. Appreciation and humility. I tend to like the darker side of my psyche because of those things.

When I was younger, I took life for granted and didn't understand it's importance. As I have gotten older, my parents are deceased, and I have 3 beautiful children, life is precious to me now. I think it took the loss of my parents to appreciate things more.
If I was faced will disease/illness, I know that I would want to spend every moment until the end with my children and husband.

Peace to you too.

Being present when a love one passes is life altering.

Both of my parents died in the presence of their five children.

Sad, peaceful, scary, intensely spiritual. All emotions of humanity are in play.

God the Holy Spirit most certainly.

A tragedy, and a blessing.

Ideally it should be that way that people take stock of what they have while they still have it... some people though seem to see this only after the loss ("you dont know what you've got till its gone").

As for me, I do appreciate my life now... its how I know that I need to keep moving on.

Unfortunately, that is TRUE. It often takes great suffering for us
to rise above the brutish nature of the human body, and find
our spirit within.
That is why we are asked to rejoice in our suffering. Because
it purges our spirit of negative influences like anger and
resentment.

I think some people can and do appreciate life without facing its loss. I am not one of those people, although I wish to be. I sometimes need a crisis to clear my vision.

Atheists face the value of this life more than stupid superstitionists who have deluded themselves into believing that they will somehow cheat the finality of death by inventing a god who gives a crap and provides a make believe after-life.

It's human nature not to appreciate what we have, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. People can learn to value what they have without experiencing its loss.

I thank God every morning when I wake up for another day of life. Then I pray for the people who didn't wake up.
