First of all i must admit,i m very pleased to find such a rarely-talked -about subject, which is infact too-much-thought-about issue for me.Secondly and unfortunately i do not know precisely about having milk and onion combined, but as Aurveda strictly blives(and me too) that there are many things which when taken in combination can prove to b even poisonous, but thats extreme talking.
this is called having VIRUDHHA AAHAAR(sanskrit/hindi) ,word-meaning, OPPOSITE FOOD
one virudh aahar i know ,banana-milk,very popular one to make muscle tissue in india, but this is opp. food.
Generally we must give a second thought bfor eating anything in combine with, milk, honey, banana etc

I don't understand what the problem is with milk and onion. There are tons of sauces made of milk with onions as an ingredient or both as ingredients in casseroles.'

I ate a whole onion on its own about 20 minutes ago ( since i have cold and flue symptoms ) and just warmed up a glass of milk mixed with honey for my sore throat. The onion is so strong that i cant tast the milk nor the honey. I thought id look it up to see whether they are ok to be consumed together. Now although It is safe, i would not suggest having them at the same time as my stomach feels a little grim even though i gave a 20 mins break :)

So long as the milk is homogenized and doesn't have E coli bacteria in it, should be OK, but your stomach may object.
