The literature seems to indicate that social phobia is best treated through a combination of medication and counselling. The medication can help control physical symptoms, which only compound the problem, while a good therapist can help you "unlearn" dysfunctional thought patterns.

If you have social phobia, it's not your fault, and you're not defective in any way -- probably you were born predisposed to it, and our society favours extrovertism, which makes it very hard for shy people to feel accepted.

But there is a lot more understanding out there than there was a few years ago -- help is available!

there are drugs you can take, I prefer not to. I have that same problem. I try as hard as I can just to get out more, and also be with friends I trust. that helps me. try to avoid people you don't like or know you can't trust to begin with. I know it's very hard, I don't even tell people that I am, I'm to embarrassed.

There are medications that can help. You would need to see a doctor for a prescription, I think.
