What is a soul and where is it?

The soul is a spirit, and cannot be seen. It is what allows us to have our being , and makes us what we are.

In that great fountainhead of wisdom, the Bhagavad Gita As It Is, the answer is clearly defined, the material body is temporary, ignorant and full of suffering and the soul or spiritual body is our original identity, which is eternal, full of knowledge, pleasure and bliss. Eternal means, at no time did the soul or self not exist and at no time will it cease to be. It is part and parcel of the Supreme soul or God, an individual part and parcel of the Absolute, that is temporarily covered over by gross and subtle material identification.

Qualitatively, the small atomic fragmental part of the Supreme Spirit is one with the Supreme. He undergoes no changes like the body. Sometimes the soul is called the steady, or kūṭa-stha. The body is subject to six kinds of transformations. It takes its birth from the womb of the mother's body, remains for some time, grows, produces some effects, gradually dwindles, and at last vanishes into oblivion. The soul, however, does not go through such changes. The soul is not born, but, because he takes on a material body, the body takes its birth. The soul does not take birth there, and the soul does not die. Anything which has birth also has death. And because the soul has no birth, he therefore has no past, present or future. He is eternal, ever-existing, and primeval.

soul exist inside you . you might have felt that you are being guided by someone inside the body. this guidance is given by soul.it does not have any control on your mind. mind takes decision . decision depends upon wheather mind is listening to your soul or your senses.soul can only guide the mind.from the childhood as person grows his mind is developed . now it depends upon the person wheather he has developed the mind intelligence to listen the soul or senses.it depends upon the activities performed by you. the time how you have been utilized . have you utilized the time for material life or being selfish( or full filling the requirement of the sences) or for developing faith in God by working selflessely,patiently without any expectations .soul always guides for the right thing at every step of life .but if your mind is always taking decisions according to full fill the requirement of senses than you are going away from the soul you can never experience the existence of the soul in the body. but if takes decisions as per guidance of the soul , i am sure that you will feel one day from the activities around you or from the signals into the brain which you will feel that it is nothing but your soul. clearly you can distiguish the soul, mind and senses.you will know about your future also the past birth and what is going to happen next. for that you have to work hard to know about your soul. soul lives in your heart.because till heart works a person can be alive, when heart stops functioning man dies ie soul goes out of the body.

Soul is there where the tension of a spring of a wall clock is BEFORE it is fully unwound. It goes wher the tension fo the spring goes AFTER it is fully unwound.
soul is there when a flame is seen burning at the end of a match stick . Soul goes to the place where the flame that was burning at the stick went after it was put out .
Humanity as is won't with it is unable to see what really exists and sees only what really dose not exist .
It sees a blue sky like a vault over its head .It had so many stories and conceptions about it . It calls it a sky .but actually there is nothing like the sky there and as you go up , and up you see nothing and the blue col;our also turns tin ot darkness . the blue colour was due to the dispersal of light in the dense atmospher of gases of all sorts. so it sees what relly does not exist .
the same hunaity sees teh sun going around theearth and beliefes that the sun is moving around the earth. but sciece told it that the earth is spiining around itself and that it was going around the sun and that the entier galaxy is flying in the spoace with trririfc speed. The humanity does nt see the earth moving i any manner and the it thinks that it sees the same sky every day wher as no man has ever seen the same space in his life though the earthis going aroundthe sun in an elliptical pathe that looks the same in space . but it is not as the galaxy itself is flying away and the solar syatem itself is travellin gin space withh tremendous speed and it never comes back tothe same spot in its life . So the humanity does not see the what is happening .
so it is notable to se the life still working inside the atom of efey element in the compound of which teh tissue of a dead body is made of . the matter is never dead .the body of noman ever dies . Matter is indestructible . it is the kinetic energy that is gone whre the kinetic energy of a stone thown in to the air is gone when it comes to rest.on the earth .Soul is the manifestation of the bio-chemical the inter -action of the elements of which the body is made. It can not exist without a body. it can exist independent of a body , the head of a man should talk even afer it is severd and a man should not die even after his dead is severed. But the man dies just like an electric appliance whose circuitry is snapped the activity and workin gof the appliance is dependent on its components .te components were not depoendent on the working of the appliance .but he workin gof the appliance as dependent on the component . Its life was dependedent on its parts .Thati why the doctors advise youto maintain yur health so that you may not develop sickness tat would kill you.
This is why the hindu philosophy advises you to maintain your body by yogic methods and satvic foods . This why a Tamil saint said "I maintained my body , and thereby mainteined my life " (Udalai oombinaen, OOyirai Ombin naeneah "

My understanding is that a "soul" is a heavier spirit body. One that
is effected by lower spiritual realities, like the forces at work
in Creation. Magnetism is a profound spiritual force, that
operates through many levels, and is the basis for the beliefs
about being "drawn" to hell, or rising to Heaven.
The astral double is a soul. A spirit that looks just like us. It can leave our body before death, So where it is?????

hi, the easiest way to explain that would be that there are three parts of a person.

You are a spirit,
you have a soul,
and you live in a body.

spirit, soul, body.

lots of people think your spirit and your soul are the same things. not so.

your soul, is your mind, will and emotions. your character. the part of you that makes u act the way you do, and make decisions etc.

your spirit is the real you, living in your body. the part that has communion with God and can communicate with God. it is the part that is most important, and should (but doesnt always coz we arent perfect) be ruling over your soul.

It doesn't say he was given a soul. It says he became one. So you are a soul. As to where you are at the moment, you could answer that better than any of us. ;)
