For example my uncle was a drunken sailor all his life. A failed marriage...a Catholic that never went to church. I went to the funeral at a huge Cathedral in St.Paul , Minn and the priest launched him to heaven. The Bible states that Jesus made a covenant with those that stuck by Jesus during his trials on earth..and that liars theives, drunks would not inherit God's Kingdom? Confusing!!!

A funeral is for the living, not the dead!
To bless or curse the dead, dose on good!
They the dead are in the hands of God, and we can not know where they are heaven or hell!

It is best at that time to comfort the living, for nothing can be done, or said, that will benefit the dead!

Everyone goes to Hell, even Christ, upon death. Of course, there aren't any words in the oldest scrolls that translates as hell or hell fire, just the grave. Being Catholic does not make him a true Christian. That is personal and not based on your religion. Everyone, who were not born again, including those hung beside Christ, since they died before the Holy Spirit was poured out, are resurrected in the second resurrection of Revelations. They will either be resurrected to a declaration of judgment or to life on earth. If to judgment, than they cease to exist, even in the minds of the living. Whether they get life is not something any human can say. Only God makes that decision. To think otherwise is putting yourself on the same level as God.

uhh, no ive never been to a hell sending funeral.. lol... coz no matter what the pulpiteers say.... they have no say wether the person goes to heaven or hell. thats between God and the Person who died.
all because someone was sinning ... drunkeness etc... doesnt mean they wont go to heaven. it depends on if they had Jesus in there heart...if they accepted Him as Lord. Of course the person will have to answer for there sins... but that doesnt mean they are hell bound.

making it to heaven is not by wether u were good or bad... or by how much u went to church... its by your personal relationship with God. its by wether or not you chose to receive the Lord's salvation before you died or not.

the bible says it is by GRACE we are saved. not, by works or our own efforts.

so dont worry about the funeral service. it cant dictate where that dead person goes. only that person and God can :-)

Only Jesus can send someone to Hell.
A lot of preacher-minister-priests are ignorant of their own faith beliefs.

Jesus tells us plainnly in matthew
Jesus said "Judge not, that you be not judged" (Matt.7:1),

Only "person" judge to hell is Satan EZEKIEL 28:14-19

Revelations 20:
This is when the dead (those who rejected Jesus shall be judged)

One who condemns (especially) from the pulpit is ignorant of the GOSPEL>
WE are also made with the right spirit in heart and that means
We don't want one soul to be lost.

It seems to me that they are just trying to avoid saying negative things about a person at their own funeral. The only mistake is that instead of just making a non judgmental ceremony of it, they go to the extreme and actually say the person was great and they are going to heaven.
It's a lie which the pulpit jockey will have to answer for.

i have. but its the preacher who needs to pray.only God knows our heart.and is the righteous judge.the preacher needs to read judge not that you be not judged for with the judgment you give i will judge the same way. so the preacher needs to ask God to forgive him. or he my find he is where he preached this man and this man may be enjoying the peace of God in heaven it only takes a word or two. and you don't know what his conversation with God was. i mean the thief on the cross only said Jesus remember me when you get to your fathers kingdom. and Jesus said this day you will be in Paradise with me. so we need to be careful not to judge. all catholic some judgment in some of your answers i am a catholic. and have been tough not to judge. their are good and bad in all churches. we are encouraged to fellowship with other denomination we go to revivals, signings ect with the Baptist, methods and Pentecostals i have the baptism of the holy spirit and speak in toques as many catholics do.

Yes I have been to one like that. If your uncle wasnt saved and from what you say about his life that he was always a drunk, he did not bear any fruits saying he was saved. Catholics from what I know are good to do that. They think they can pray someone into heaven. Well you cant.

Yes it is peculiar, isn't it? It does seem that in the catholic church especially, you can BUY your way to heaven, just like Led Zeppelin sings.....

Just about the same here.
My Dad's best friend.
The preacher of course talked of salvation, but directed none of it towards ol' Ted.
