Depression is a state of mind. A depressed person is stuck in her inner world, where the focus is on the negative.

Your world exists where you see old traumas and tragedies or inner hurt. Your thoughts become uncontrolled when you keep seeing the sad mental movies.

People and events from your tragic past that keep showing up in your daily life can overwhelm you and leave you feeling lost.

Your depressive state may have originated from lack of parental support. You could have been brought up in an abusive upbringing. Or you may have suffered from a violent relationship.

When you bring along the hurt and anger into your adult or daily life and not knowing how to let go, you will end up hurting yourself instead.

When you feel depressed, you are extremely hopeless and pessimistic. There is a lack of enthusiasm to take any kind of action.

Your believe is related to defeat and failure because that is the only picture you are seeing.

Your depression could range from being depressed mildly and having mood disorders to a major mental illness.



The symptoms of a person who is intensely depressed among others are.

Self-harming or suicidal thoughts.
Eating disorders.
Withdrawn and anti social character.
Fatigue and without energy.
Panic attacks or paranoid.
Sadness and despair.
Very low self-image and self-esteem
Rage and uncontrolled anger.
Numbness and blank.
If you are discouraged and feel useless, you could actually heal yourself faster if you accept that it is your choice.

You can, if you want to, unlearn all the habits of thoughts that you have gathered.

Almost everyone has gone through some setbacks or harsh experiences in the course of their lives.

A person who does not suffer from depression has acquired self-control. She has developed certain physical and mental disciplines and habits.

It takes determination.
Antidepressant drugs do not cure the feelings of discouragement, sadness or anxiety.It takes determination and a resolve to change and grow personally.

It takes courage to change the way you see things from the negative to an optimistic point of view. You need to want to get rid of that awful, sad and depressed feeling.

Learn to like yourself better.

You have to regain your self worth and discard the feelings of helplessness by altering your lifestyle even in the simplest way.

Talk to yourself better. Change the way you have perceived and justified your setbacks.

Develop the skills to enhance your image. Take action to make things happen. Inactivity causes more depression.

Lack of action causes lethargy and put you in a state of stupor and will affect your drive to overcome even the smallest obstacle and barrier.

Use your brain wisely.
Feeling discouraged and dejected has to do with depressive mental pictures. Your brain is a tool you can use at you will.

Visualize new things and a realistic self-image. See yourself taking over your depression and living a fuller life.

If you give it the right instruction and direction, it will edit and manipulate your disturbing thoughts. And your depressive thoughts affect your emotions.

Expect the best outcome.

If you expect bad things to happen, it will tend to manifest. So expect the best from your daily experience.

And if things do not turn out as you have expected, accept the responsibility that you may not have acquired the necessary skill or made sufficient preparation.

Refuse to mistake it as a permanent disability or failure and cause you to feel depressed.

Connect with others.
Withdrawal from people will further cause a feeling of loneliness and abandonment. It will affect you personally and socially.

The more you withdraw from society, the more you will feel empty and unloved.

Talk to someone about your problems or if you feel uncomfortable, listen to others. Get emotional support and support others.

Create a bond with animals.
Keep a pet. Take a walk with your dog or stroke your cat. Go horse riding.

Go for a massage or hug and cuddle someone.
Massaging, cuddling or hugging is therapeutic. A massage also heals fatigue that is the outcome of being depressed.

Exercise your muscles.
Regular exercises and workouts lead to your wellness. Playing games that involve kicking or hitting will help you release your anger.

Laugh.
Go for a laugh and get rid of your numbness and blankness caused by your depressing state.

Watch hilarious movies or join friends who can make you laugh and bring some flow back into your life.

Release your anger and hurt.
Uncover inner hurt and anger and release them from your system. Releasing will help you identify the mistaken association from your trauma and tragedies.

There are various therapies and techniques available for releasing ranging from sound therapy to light therapy, guided imagery and Practical Meditation.

Whatever has happened cannot be changed. Your future is in your hands and it is up to you to make it or break it.

You can help yourself get rid of depression.Take responsibility for your life ahead. Refuse to poison it further with pessimism and melancholy.

It sort of depends on why you're depressed. If something happened in your life that has caused it, I would first recommend therapy, if that doesn't help, then you may need both. Depression can be caused by an event or series of events in your life and then turn into an imbalance, in which case you would need someone to help you through the event and medication to get your serotonin levels back in check. In those cases medication is probably temporary. I was diagnosed with depression too, however nothing happened in my life to cause it, I just always felt the way I did, from the time I could remember. I was in therapy, and my therapist told me it was a chemical imbalance (I had nothing to talk about to my therapist, it was just chit chat, nothing was bothering me), I was then sent to another psychiatrist to confirm the diagnoses and was told again, it was an imbalance. I was given medication, and now I function normally (if there is such a thing), and I'm not in therapy anymore. You need to get to the root of the problem, before you can answer that question.

I'm no doctor,but it seems that depression is a state of mind.The depressed person has issues that appear too difficult to deal with.I also see some depression comes with a loss of faith.If you feel abandoned by God you can feel like nothing can help you through.I don't want to sound like depression isn't real to many,I do feel like this is an illness that can be helped without the use of medication.I say this not for the severely depressed person with other mental issues.Meds seem to make a person dependent and when taken off the meds some commit suicide or commit crimes against others.I think a good therapist could be very helpful for depression and finding ones faith as well.God is very helpful and when there is no where else to turn,prayer has always worked in my life.It helped me kick a drug addiction without leaving my family for rehab and God has walked with me many times through the valley of the shadow of death and I've succeeded in beating my own mental demons.We all have the power to heal our minds.Some of us get lost,but cry out to God and the light of redemption is forever burning.

in many instances depression is a normal healthy response to a tragic situation.

okay so that may sound weird... but the truth is if you have experienced the loss of someone you love, if you or someone you care deeply about has been hurt or injured, if you cant get a job..... it is a normal.... in otherwords... healthy .... response to feel very sad, hurt, angry, upset......

and like all other normal states.... it will pass...

it may well take a lot of time and you may need some counselling to help you along...

In other instances there can be a chemical imbalance in the brain and a medication to correct this imbalance is appropriate..

so honestly it is a matter of working out what is the cause of the depression and then deciding what is the best course of action.

how people respond to tragedy depends on many variables including cultural, socio-economic, age, and family situation.

I would say it depends on the level of depression you have. In some cases therapy can help, in other cases medication is needed...in more severe cases the depressed person may need both. Depression is a "funny" thing that affects individuals differently. What's good for one person doesn't mean it's good for another. The important thing is that one notices and realizes the problem and gets help before it is too late.

Of-course therapy, medication means side effects. Leave that for adults who have less of a chance in life. When I was in elementary school 20 years ago, a lot of kids took medication which was wrong.

the causes of depression are physiological but when a person gets into depression medication is necessary first of all. because the process is biological.During the medication psychotherapy is used for healing.

It depends on the cause and the history of the condition. Some respond with counselling and changing sleep habits and diet. Others require medicine.
