If you know anybody with kids, just offer to babysit sometime. Just call, let them know you're interested in babysitting, and if they ever want to go out for the evening or want to run errands, that you would watch their kids for them. Just have a price in mind before hand so you can tell them what your rates are. (I wish someone I knew would call me with an offer like that, I would take them up on it in a heart beat.)
If you don't know anybody with kids, place an add in your local paper. Just say responsible 17 yr old, will watch your kids on _______________(weekends or evenings or whatever hours your willing to watch kids,) and put call for rates____________( and put your number. Make sure your parents are OK with that)
I babysat throughout high school to make extra money. It is work, but if you like kids it is fun too. If you don't like kids, don't do it. The only thing I would recommend for you, is to take a babysitting training class. In our area they are given at the Red Cross. It cost's about $30.00 but they teach you CPR and what to do in case of emergencies. It's a good class.

Average pay is about $4.00 per hour. Depending on how old the kids are and how much you're suppoes to do.

Good luck!

Word of mouth is the best-start telling neighbors and your friends' parents. Or you can put an add in the paper. Also, if you go through the YMCA or girls and boys club babysitter training class, they put your name on a list that people can pick and choose who to call. Pay varies based on where you live and how many kids there are. $3-5 per hour isn't outrageous. Be sure you don't eat them out of house and home and do your own dishes!

Just as a suggestion? Before you try to get a babysitting position, go to the fire dept. and ask if they have CPR classes. If so, where, when, does it cost, and how much?
Sometimes they give these classes for free, or they can tell you where you "can" go to take this class. The reason I'm suggesting this, is because "most" parents want to know that the person caring for their child, "knows" cpr and has a certificate. The pay differs. But knowing CPR will be a plus for you. And that also tells the parents that you're not just interested in pay, but that you really "love" children & are responsable. Hope this helped you. Good luck

The pay may vary, it all depends on who you have to babysit, and if the kid(s), who you have to babysit for, and if they have any behavior problems or not. They may pay you a few bucks an hour, or they may give you like $10 for the whole time. You can easily become a babysitter, by asking friends, and/or neighbors. Also you can place an ad in the paper, on the radio station, and you can put up posters in places such as grocery stores, laundromats, and other places that have a bulletin board.

I always just babysat people I knew's kids...People are more ocmfortable that way, since they know some of your background. Also, they will reccomend you to their friends if you do a good job, and then your "business" will grow. 17 is plenty old in my mind. I was watching slightly older kids (not babies) at 14. I got really attached to sum of um and still do! I would reccomend taking a child CPR class...they offer them at YMCA's. This will really help parents feel more comfortable leaving their children with you. As far as pay per hour, I found that if I let the parents pay me what they felt like, in most cases I came out considerably better than if I charged a per kid/per hour rate. Its also gonna depend on the area you would live in, you would probably laugh at what I got paid, but where I live, cost of living is considerably lower than in most places! Good luck!

Check around your area and see if they offer any classes on the subject. If your parents have friends or if anyone knows anyone with small children, see if you can spend a little time with the kids to see if you will like it. Most importantly, get your certification in CPR. Check with your local hospital about classes. Not sure about pay, I guess you will have to ask either the people you are babysitting for or a friend who babysits.

Put an ad in your local newspaper or put the word out to your neighbors and at your congregation. The pay depends on how many children you will be watching and the ages. It will also depend on if you are wanting to do this on weekends for extra money or if you want to do this full time.

If you want to do this on the weekends, the rate of pay is sometimes left to the parents of the children you are watching. Also if two couples are going out together, they may want you to watch all of their children. The number of children you want to watch at one time will depend a lot on their ages. You can probably expect $20.00 for one family with 1-3 kids for an evening out (about 4-5 hours). The couples that do this will probably expect the sitting to be combined so make sure up front. If you want to charge an hourly rate, a rate of $1.75-$2.50 for the first child and then $.75-$1.50 per hour for each child after that would probably be reasonable. Just keep in mind what the family can afford. It won't do you any good to charge a high rate and only sit once for them. You want repeat customers.

If you are wanting to do this full time, you will usually set the rate of pay. For one child, full time in their home, $75-$100 a week would be reasonable. If they have two children you might charge between $100-125 per week and so on. You will also want to take into consideration the ages of the children. For example school age children will not be in your care for as long as a baby or toddler would be. Also you would want to find out if you will be expected to take the children to appointments or to and from school. Also if the people are working shift work or if they will expect you on holidays you can negotiate for higher pay.

Check at your local hospital, they usually offer free babysitting course that you will learn how to take care of all ages of children, appropriate discipline and what to do in the event of an emergency, they also will CPR certify you on both children and infants. The first aid course and CPR course as well as the babysitting course give you certificates upon completion. Parents love to see these. It makes them feel more secure.

Here are some websites that I hope can help you.

I babysat when I was a teenager and made a lot of money doing it. I also enjoyed it a great deal. I found out that I only had to sit for one or two families before they started giving my name and number out to their friends. Word of mouth is the best advertising.
Good Luck!

Advertise your availability. Newspapers and bulliten boards are a good start. Pay...it depends on how many kids you look after. I pay 7 dollars an hour when my 2 are awake and 5 when they are asleep.
