You obviously didn't grow up with my mother. She cooked it - we ate it. We ate calf liver, beef tongue, brussel sprouts (which I have learned to love as an adult, but fresh not frozen), hard fried eggs. If it was on the table, it was on our plates and we ate it!

I was and still am a pretty adventurous eater- but the two foods I have detested since childhood are glazed cooked beets and mashed turnips. I love cold beets in a salad- but find them disgusting when coated with the gooey glazing and hot. Turnips are okay in a veg soup, or even raw for dipping- but positively disgusting mashed and pretending to be mashed potatos. Carrots and spinach from a can- YUCK. Didn't care what Popeye ate, I couldn't take the metallic taste in either one- though cooked from fresh was tolerable. Grandma tried to convince me blood sausage was good, too- and I haven't had that in my mouth since she foisted off the first and last bite.

On Christmas eve, it was a tradition in my family to have fish, (not just any fish; really "wierd" stuff like Octopus and Calamari). One year I was told I couldn't leave the table until I at least tasted one bite. I sat there for 2 hours with one small bite of Calamari on my plate until I was finally allowed to leave, (she never did that again!). Twenty years later, she still asks my every year why I wont try some. (Go figure! I've been scarred for life!)

LIVER! I continued to try to eat it until about age 30, and finally gave up, I just HATE IT, THE TASTE, the texture, the smell. I bet people have tried 50 recipes on me, it's just awful and gags me. AND, I'm a fat man who eats most things that can't out run me!
I think there are just things things that certain people can't tolerate.

After tasting liver one time, that was the end of it for me. Took me four hours to get that horrible taste out of my mouth. The other thing was brussel sprouts. I chucked those right up. Still to this day do not like them.

Yeah, cream chipped beef is awful, I agree. Mine was spinach, which I now love.
