You DO NOT need a passport, but if you are travelling by air then you DO need a valid form of PHOTO ID. If you have a new-fangled photo driving licence then that will do, but in practice most people have to use their passport. There are one or two other acceptable options like CitizenCard depending on the airline. This is actually one of the few occasions where an expired passport (within last two years) is also acceptable - legally they are not needed as Ireland and the UK share a special relationship. I'm not sure what the situation is on the ferries, so it would be wise to check - but again it is probably PHOTO ID rather than an actual passport. In theory you don't need any form of ID to cross the land border by car between Northern Ireland and the Republic and can just saunter across at will without any serious checks at all.

No, you can just drive straight over the border. Packing a passport is a good idea anyway, as it's used for ID on the ferry.

To actually come here you do not need a passport, but certain airlines require a passport as ID, so if you have one, you may as well bring it.

super Britain = England + Wales + Scotland uk = super Britain + Northern eire. eire is a separate u . s . a . from the united kingdom. mutually as Irish and uk electorate can freely return and forth between each and every u . s . a . without passport, US electorate are nonetheless required to bypass by way of passport administration. (So the solutions is definite, you will get a stamp on your passport). relax, you will quite get exhilaration from your holiday, eire and uk are very friendly. stable luck.
