Reality is nobody truely knows...and even the bible doesnt.

People use the bible to say its 6000+ ..which is off because the bible itself can be used to multiple that figure by millions.

1daytogod=1000years to man
1dtg=365000dtm
6000dtg=6000*365000dtm
age = 219million years per the bible

Creatition by same is 6000 years .

Now, reality is, that we know factually with no carbon dating or any other guessing that the earth is definately older than 12000 years old, because we do in fact have nondamaged surface caves in Egypt that have never had water, which means that no flooding happend near that cave since then.

The Earth is 4.5 to 4.6 billion years old, but the oldest known rocks are about 4 billion years old and rocks older than 3 billion years are rare. The oldest fossils of living organisms are less than 3.9 billion years old.

The Earth's surface is very young. In the relatively short (by astronomical standards) period of 500,000,000 years or so erosion and tectonic processes destroy and recreate most of the Earth's surface and thereby eliminate almost all traces of earlier geologic surface history (such as impact craters). Thus the very early history of the Earth has mostly been erased.

There are difficulties in making a precise estimate ... precise estimate ... now that's an oxymoron.

The US Geological Survey explains some of the problems, including the fact that geological processes have destroyed many of the older rocks in the earth, but it is still possible to make some good guesses of an age for the earth of over 4 billion years.

The oldest known rocks still extant on earth's surface or close to it are those of the Pre-Cambrian shield in Canada. In fact, most of central Canada rests on this enormous, tectonically stable shield. Geologists date its formation to 4.2 billion years ago. Add an unknown amount of time for the newly formed earth to cool sufficiently to allow solid rock in the first place and you maybe got a planet that's 4.6 billion years old. Of course, if you want to start its life from the VERY beginning you gotta start with the accretion disk that ultimately coalesced into our world. That probably puts its age to 5 billion years.

Old enough to be fruitful, not old enough to be cranky, unless we disturb its equilibrium, that is.

Many scholars agree that the planet Earth has about 6,000 years, and they count as follows: From the Creation to the Flood, 2,000 years; from the Flood to Jesus' first coming, 2,000 years; and from Jesus to now, about 2,000 years.

I think they got to this conclusion by counting the age of the people before the Flood, for example, Adam and the ones who followed him. You know that sometimes the Bible tells us the age of the people, and so I think they just counted the years of those people and got that conclusion. I don't know, I just heard that, but don't know how to do it.

There's a video about Creationism and Evolution, it's called "Evolution, Creation and Logic". It's a great video, you may see it on this website:http://www.amazingfacts.org/media/everlasting_gospel.asp

The generally accepted age for the Earth and the rest of the solar system is about 4.55 billion years (plus or minus about 1%). This value is derived from several different lines of evidence

Fossilized remains of living things - stromatolites - from 3.5 billion years ago have been found. General scientific opinion is that the Earth is about 4.5 billion years old - about the same age as the Universe. Isn't it amazing?!

Ok, this will smack a few people but just think about this one ok. First, the Bible states that the earth was formed in 6 days and then the God of Heaven rested on the seventh, right? What exactly is a day to God. Well in the Bible it states that to God a day is of a thousand years to him. Hummmm, ok. Using that math, we can saftely say then it took him 6,000 years to form the earth. Using the math of the Bible we then can say that the earth is around 12,000 years old. Hummm, they why do ask has science placed the earth about 4.57 million years old then? I can answer that one, to explain things like coal, like dinosaur bones, ect.

To answer the question before its asked how do we get coal and dinosaur bones, ask Mr. Noah and his flood days. We were wiped out by flood, the earth was covered in waters. Everything died out and was washed away, when the waters went back down, you had a whole lot of rotting decaying things laying everywhere, hummm rotting decaying things, eventually turn to coal and bones. Thousands of years of placing dirt and earth quakes, volcanoes and the like has buried them, or uncovered them and whala, archeology.

I wasn't around so I have to rely on what the scientist are estimating. No one can say for sure but most scientist think it is at least 4 BILLION years old.
